Arsene Wenger opens up about Arsenal star’s potential departure

Arsene Wenger has spoken out about the various transfer rumors surrounding Arsenal star, including a move to Manchester United.

The 28-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from Arsenal after the Chilean refusal to sign a contract extension with the club. Rumours and speculation have suggested that Arsenal could end up selling Alexis Sanchez during the January transfer window, rather than see him go for free once his contract expires.

Alexis Sanchez

With an asking price of around £35 million for the Chilean, it looks like Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Real Madrid are interested in the 28-year-old. While Sanchez did have a deal to join Manchester City and reunite with old Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola in the summer, things fell apart after a replacement couldn’t be found. That one tiny blimp did eventually end up putting a stop to any move for Alexis Sanchez.

According to reports, from the Guardian and even the Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho has sanctioned a £25 million offer for the Chilean, despite Sanchez wanting to join City. However, during his pre-match presentation before the match against Bournemouth, Arsene Wenger went on to say, “Look, honestly, I cannot tell you much more at the moment about this situation. Nothing is really concrete.

I don’t want to give you wrong information. Nothing is decided one way or another. It is always beneficial to the club who can take advantage. But we are not in that. Normally you should stay until the end of the season but we will see.”

It’s no surprise as to why Arsene Wenger was hell-bent on making sure that Alexis Sanchez stayed at Arsenal. The Chilean may not have liked it, but he definitely understood why, with 30 goals and 14 assists which made him the team’s most productive player.

With less than a six months left on his contract, the Gunner’s will never get the Sanchez’s real market value. And with prices for replacements shattering the norm, any chance of replacing his goals and assists would be close to impossible.

“I don’t question his passion when he’s on the pitch, he wants to win,’ Wenger further added. “I’ve never questioned his commitment or attitude. He’s always fully committed. He never has any problems with his attitude. [His recent form] is not necessarily linked with the length of his contract.”

Author’s take:

For Alexis Sanchez and Arsenal, it looks like an era is coming to an end. While the Chilean is exactly the kind of player Arsenal could’ve built their team around, things just haven’t worked out. But losing him to a Premier League club, especially one like Manchester City or even Manchester United makes things even worse for Arsenal and Arsenal fans.
