ATLETICO MADRID believe they can convince Ander Herrera to leave Manchester United for the Wanda Metropolitano this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Ander Herrera is still to sign a new contract with United, and as he’s linked with a move to Atletico, supporters are convinced he could be used as a makeweight in a huge deal.
And according to Spanish outlet AS, Atletico believe they can convince Herrera to return to Spain and an agreement is nearly close.

WHAT IS THE SUBJECT MATTER?
The Spaniard is said to have turned down United’s attempts to renew his contract and “the agreement would be close to closing.” AS added, “[Manager Diego] Simeone would have said yes and the player too.”
It is a little unusual United have not yet tied down the 28-year-old, who will be free to negotiate with the likes of Atletico in January.
Spain international could be available on a free transfer, providing he does not agree a new deal with the Red Devils.

IS HERRERA THE SOLUTION FOR MIDFIELD IN WANDA METROPOLITANO?
Despite being named United’s Player of the Season for the campaign just finished, Herrera found himself on the bench at the start of the latest season.
According to the report, there is a willingness from both sides for a deal to happen and Simeone is convinced Spaniard is exactly what Atletico are missing in midfield.
But with captain Gabi’s influence slowly failing he wants new blood in midfield to accompany Thomas Partey and Spain stars Koke and Saul Niguez.

28-year-old Spain international has started just five Premier League games this term as Jose Mourinho has favoured a paring of Pogba and new signing Nemanja Matic. And if things do not improve a return to Spain could be on the cards, having previously played for Real Zaragoza and Athletic Bilbao. Nevertheless, Herrera remains an important figure at Old Trafford and he has qualities that could make him perfect to play under Simeone—namely his impressive work ethic and the aggression to his game, which coupled with his mobility make him a dynamic ball-winner in the centre of the pitch.
