Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has credited Real Madrid for his rise at the top level. The Spaniard was a part of Real Madrid’s youth academy before he joined their city-rivals in 2008.
Saul Niguez has been a key member of Atletico side for the past few years. The midfielder moved to Atletico in 2008 and impressed everyone while playing for Atletico’s B team. In 2012, he made an official debut for the senior side at the age of just 17.
The midfielder thinks, his two years at Madrid academy has helped him grow.
Saul Niguez thankful to Real Madrid
“Reflecting back, my time at Madrid was positive for allowing me to grow and mature,” Saul said while talking to Movistar+.
“Now I realize that it was ultimately a good thing for me as it allowed me to reach the level I’m at now, even if it didn’t feel good at the time.”
The midfielder was a wanted man in Europe with Barcelona and Manchester United both trying to lure him away from Wanda Metropolitano. But Atletico Madrid recently tied the midfielder to a 9-year contract which runs until 30th June 2026.

Saul has even broken into the senior side for La Roja after his U-21 heroics in the last summer. The Spaniard won the Golden Boot in U-21 Euro Championships while crucially scoring a hat-trick against Italy in the semi-finals.
The youngster has scored one and assisted one in the league this season. He will be part of Atletico’s side when they take on his former club, Real Madrid.
It is good to see Saul crediting Real Madrid for his growth, regardless of the fierce rivalry between two sides. The midfielder has a great future ahead. He can certainly wear the armband for Los Rojiblancos in future if he continues to play this way.
