Barcelona has prepared a shortlist of five players who will be allowed to leave Camp Nou in order to fund the purchases of Antoine Griezmann and Phillipe Coutinho
The La Liga giants are currently looking to sell five players in the January transfer window in order to sign Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho in the summer. The duo could easily be in excess of over £200 million but Barcelona is reportedly preparing a clearance for the unwanted stock at the Camp Nou to raise funds for their prime targets.
Despite having comfortably won the El Classico last week, Barcelona are looking to bolster their squad for the future. It may be difficult for either Griezmann or Coutinho to arrive at Barcelona in the January winter transfer window, but the latter still has a significant chance of doing so.
Coutinho was desperate to join the Catalonian side in the summer after handing in his transfer request, which the Liverpool board were quick to ignore. However, his national compatriot Paulinho has already stated jokingly that he is on the lookout for a house in Barcelona for the 25-year-old playmaker. The last time Barcelona came close to signing the midfield maestro was for a price of £138 million which was rejected for a third time by the Merseyside club.
But to balance the books on Financial Fair play Barcelona will also need to sell a few of their players to respect the rules set by FIFA and not violate them. And Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has already decided the fate of five players in his side.
Javier Mascherano, Aleix Vidal, Arda Turan, Gerard Deulofeu and Rafinha are reportedly on their way out of the football club.
Mascherano has been heavily linked with a move to the Chinese Super League in the summer that has virtually been agreed upon, which could end his top-flight footballing career while Deulofeu is wanted by a string of Italian clubs.
With Turk Arda Turan’s absence from football since April, there seems to be a non-verbal agreement of his time remaining at the club while Vidal and Rafinha have failed to cement their places in Valverde’s squad and are termed as a ‘surplus’.
However, Barcelona fans will be delighted with the news about former Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele returning back to training after injury and could be fit to play in the New year as the Catalan club look to stretch the nine-point gap at the top of the La Liga table.
Barcelona squad is definitely full of dead weight. If they are to buy two of the best talents in world football then they need to get rid of some of its unwanted players. Coutinho and Griezmann will definitely increase the overall quality of Barcelona should the moves go through.
There’s no better way for Barca to balance their books then by selling the dead weight to fund moves for the cream of the crop.
