Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has confirmed that the star striker Alvaro Morata will return to the squad for Roma clash after back to back defeats.
Morata missed the shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace after injuring his hamstring against Manchester City before the international break.
Will Morata’s return make the things right for Chelsea?
Chelsea has faced back to back defeats in the Premier League against Manchester City and Crystal Palace respectively. Blues have missed Morata and he had been in a great form for Chelsea before the injury.
Morata, who made a stellar start to life in London before picking up an injury, is now available for selection, however, meaning the Italian will not have to turn to untrusted Michy Batshuayi once again.
“Alvaro is in contention for tomorrow’s game,” Conte told the press. “He has been training with us and in contention.”
“We have players that are not used to playing three in a row. Kante and Moses... [it’s their] the first time to play three games in a row, Morata the first time regularly, Alonso is the same.”
“Sometimes you have to take a risk, like [against] Manchester City [when] he got injured, but if I didn’t start him you’d tell me I’m crazy. Sometimes the players need to rest.”
Conte says Morata, and some of the other Chelsea players, struggle to cope with the hectic programme of English football because they are not used to playing so many games and are picking up injuries.
Chelsea, who top Group C after two wins, will be without Moses and N’Golo Kante through hamstring injuries, while Danny Drinkwater (calf) will also miss out.
The return of Morata will give surely give some relief to the manager Antonio Conte and the Chelsea fans. With back to back defeats, it’s now a bigger task for the manager to bring the confidence back in the squad. With a victory against Roma, Chelsea can get back on track. Looking at the tough competition in the top 8 positions in the Premier League table, Blues necessarily need to get back to winning form.
