Things have started to speed up in the January transfer window and same is the case at Anfield.
Barcelona’s longtime target Philippe Coutinho is reportedly ready to make the decision about his future today. The Catalans have chased the Brazilian for the last few months as a replacement for Xavi and Iniesta. The deal looked certain in the summer as Coutinho submitted the transfer request to the Liverpool.
But Barcelona’s all 3 bids for the player were immediately rejected by the Merseyside club. Coutinho has been in a great form at the Liverpool, scoring 12 goals in 20 appearances. But Klopp and management have failed to change the player’s mind regarding the transfer.
Big Decision today?
According to the reports in Diario Madridista, the little magician still wants to complete his dream move to the Camp Nou and will hand the official transfer request today. The player’s representatives are ready to meet the Liverpool board and explain the situation to the board members.
The Spanish giants submitted the highest bid of €130m in the summer and are ready to spend even more on their top target. The Catalans are reportedly ready to meet Liverpool’s demands of €150m for the player.

The reports have also suggested that the members in Barcelona dugout are confident about the move after Coutinho’s latest activities. But it is still unclear if the Reds will give the green signal for the move. (No puns intended) Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp rejected the transfer in the summer due to not having any replacements for the Brazilian.
But Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has suggested the replacement to the club.
“The absence of Philippe Coutinho from the Liverpool team yesterday (vs Burnley FC) fuelled rumours that he may be on his way to Barcelona sooner than we expected. But that would not be so much of a concern if they could nick a player like Sanchez.”
Coutinho missed the game against Burnley due to injury and will be fit in time for the Merseyside derby in FA Cup on 6th January. But if the reports are to be believed, the Brazilian now wants to enter the field in Barca jersey.
I have no take on this saga anymore. I’m not going to say anything until official news pops out. But until then: It will be interesting to see how Liverpool handles the situation this time if Coutinho submits the transfer request. The Reds were very adamant in the summer and did not allow the player to leave despite his wish.
