Mourinho:”Other Managers they cry, they cry, they cry”

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has spoken out against recent criticism of his team’s displays. The Red Devils dropped points in the Premier League against Liverpool in a 0-0 draw.

Last night in the UEFA Champions League, they narrowly beat a brave SL Benfica side 1-0 thanks to an unlucky incident involving keeper Mile SvilarMarcus Rashford’s free-kick from distance found its way into the net thanks to Svilar’s error.

Mourinho refused to accept the criticism against his team’s performances from critics and other managers.

Another clean sheet for United against Benfica

United’s solid display at the back meant that Mourinho’s side now had their 9th clean sheet of the season. Out of the past 13 matches they have played, United have conceded very few goals. However, the former Chelsea boss cannot understand the criticism of his side’s style of play recently.

Speaking to the press after the game, Mourinho said,”Not that I read it a lot, but sometimes when I read the press – not only English but Portuguese – I feel that sometimes defending properly it is seen as a crime, but it is not.”

Managers

Mourinho is bemused by all the criticism his side have faced in recent weeks.

He believes United “controlled the game” because they defended properly.

Other managers get an easy ride says Mourinho

Mourinho was later asked about his side’s defensive approach in recent games. The United manager was clearly bemused by the fact that his side was being “unfairly treated”

He said,”You know, with other managers, with other players, I’m pretty sure that yes (they get an easier ride) but that’s not the problem for us. And there is another situation, maybe I’m guilty of it: I never speak about injuries

He further spoke about how other managers react to injuries.Other managers, they cry, they cry, they cry when some player is injured. I don’t cry. I think the way to do it is to ignore the players that are injured, is to focus on the players that are available. It is to give confidence to the players that are available.

Managers

United have missed Pogba and Fellaini after both players made positive starts to this season.

Mourinho went on to speak about his current absentees, including the likes of Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini who have been big misses in midfield for the Red Devils. He said,”I can cry but I don’t, so we do it with what we have.”

We are not bad says Mourinho

Mourinho then spoke about his side’s recent draw against Liverpool. He said,” You know, we went to Liverpool with two midfield players and nothing else, not even on the bench.Today it happened the same. We brought a kid, like Benfica does, because I don’t have another solution.”

United youngster Scott McTominay made his Champions League debut with a late appearance off the bench. Mourinho spoke about why he brought the young midfielder to the game. He said,”I brought Scott McTominay who is the same age as Benfica’s kids, but the Premier League is a different story. It’s really hard.”

Mourinho’s team face Huddersfield Town next in the League. Away from home, United haven’t been as dominant as at home. They will be hoping the clash against David Wagner’s team is a turning point for them. Recent results have even drawn rumours of the United board being dissatisfied with Mourinho. There have been reports suggesting that United’s higher officials are looking for a change in management. Mourinho will have to answer to his critics once again.

Author’s take

United’s style of play in recent matches may not be the most attractive or expansive style of football. However, if there is one thing Mourinho knows how to do, it is to get results. Therefore, United fans need to trust in their current manager no matter how he gets the results. United have made a very strong start to the season and are well set to continue the same run in all competitions.
