Former World Cup winner and Juventus maestro Andrea Pirlo believes that Barcelona will get their money’s worth out of their new signing.
After months and months and months of chasing the Brazilian star, Barcelona has finally managed to grab Philippe Coutinho from the arms of Liverpool. Shelling out an incredible £142 million for the 25-year-old, the Catalan giants made Liverpool an offer they simply couldn’t refuse. However, with many questioning the amount the La Liga side paid, Italy legend Andrea Pirlo believes that Coutinho’s fee is more than justified.
The Brazilian has been in fine form for the Reds ever since his arrival five years ago, and over the last few seasons has flourished under manager Jurgen Klopp’s tutelage. However, with Barcelona losing Neymar in a rather shocking transfer saga, the Catalan giants needed a new marquee player and potentially an heir to the irreplaceable Andres Iniesta.
However, despite the fact that they did bring in Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona have been desperately chasing the Brazilian from Liverpool and they finally convinced the Reds to sell their star. But with many critics and fans balking at the price-tag, Italian, Juventus and AC Milan legend Andrea Pirlo has said that the fee is justified.
In an interview with Sky Sports Italia, Pirlo went on to say “Other than the crazy prices, the price of Coutinho is in line with the prices of today. If Van Dijk is worth €80m then he costs double. It’s only fair.”
Another Liverpool legend even went on to say, that Philippe Coutinho leaving will affect Liverpool much more than they expect it. In an interview, Steve McManaman who made 364 appearances for the Reds went on to say, “It will hurt them [to lose Coutinho] but they have got a lot of attacking players when they are all fit.

Lallana doesn’t play when they’re all fit even. Coutinho is a great player. He gives them something different and he will be a big loss for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have all got their plus points, but I think Coutinho has something different.”
The fee that Barcelona paid is most definitely justified especially when you take into consideration Philippe Coutinho’s age and his performances over the last few years. While the Brazilian has had his form and injury issues, the 25-year-old has always been one of Liverpool’s star men and oozes not only class but sheer quality. However, as to whether or not Liverpool can replace him, is another question altogether.
