Leon Goretzka will move to the Premier League when his contract expires in the summer.
The German midfielder has been on the radar of many Premier League clubs. Arsenal have been linked with him time and time again. Tottenham have also sent scouts several times to see the German play.
Leon Goretzka has enjoyed a fine start to the Bundesliga season. He has scored four goals in nine games so far and is one of the main reasons why Schalke sit pretty at 4th. The stylish midfielder was also a part of the young German squad that won the Confederations Cup.
He netted three times in the competition from a deep midfield position. Now the General Manager of German national team, Oliver Bierhoff, has let slip that Goretzka will follow in the footsteps of his former teammate Leroy Sane and move to the Premier League.
What Bierhoff said about Goretzka and Bundesliga
Bierhoff has long been involved in the German national set-up. He scored the golden goal in the finals of Euro 96 against the Czech Republic. That victory started the unofficial renaissance of German football which culminated with a World Cup victory in 2014.
Regarding Goretzka he said, “We feel that England, because of the amount of money you have with TV rights, young talented players like Leon Goretzka and Leroy Sane are moving to England.”
Bierhoff also lamented the fact that this will only lead to a decline in the quality of the Bundesliga. His comments came on the back of the success of England’s junior teams. Former German international said “This (young players moving from Bundesliga to the Premier League) is not good for our league but also for the quality of our game. We have to pay attention and invest again and again in the education of our coaches.”
