Barcelona and now Lionel Messi has told fringe star, to start looking for a new club, as he’s been deemed surplus to requirements.
The 28-year-old midfielder has only played 10 games in the La Liga this season for Barcelona, and with Philippe Coutinho’s arrival, those numbers may never move. The Catalan giants finally after months of desperately chasing the Brazilian managed to pry him away from Liverpool, but it looks like that spells bad news for Aleix Vidal.
According to reports from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo and Dario Gol, the Spaniard has been informed by the club to make use of the January transfer window and find another club. The report further adds that Lionel Messi has also spoken to former Sevilla man and asked him to look for a move as his future doesn’t lie at Camp Nou.
The 28-year-old arrived from Sevilla in the summer of 2015 but because Barcelona was still under a transfer ban, he didn’t arrive until January of 2016. Since then, however, the versatile Aleix Vidal has only made 41 appearances for the first-team over the next two years and barely made either former manager Luis Enrique or even current manager Ernesto Valverde’s starting eleven.
However, despite that, Vidal still has options with new Sevilla boss Vincenzo Montella very interested in bringing him back to Sevilla and even Serie A side Roma very interested in the 28-year-old. In an interview with Football Italia, Vidal’s agent Ruggero Lacerenza said “It’s true, there is interest from Roma. Aleix is a player of a very high level, after all. It’d be nice to reunite with Monchi, as they worked well together at Sevilla and had a good personal rapport.
A highly versatile player, Aleix Vidal has the ability to not only play as a right-back but also as a right and left winger and as a central midfielder. This ability makes him valuable and with Coutinho’s arrival and Ousmane Dembele’s return from injury, a move will be the right move for both the Spaniard and the club.
