Antoine Griezmann has an informal contract with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez regarding a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer
Antoine Griezmann’s days at Atletico Madrid are numbered, it has now become a matter of when, and not if, the Frenchman will leave the club. Manchester United has been the frontrunners, tracking the player since the summer. Recently, however, Barcelona seemed to be the prime destination for the wantaway forward. Real Madrid has also sniffed around the player, fleetingly showing their interest.

As it turns out, the interest from Los Blancos might be a little more concrete than thought. Express is reporting via Diario Gol that Florentino Perez has an informal agreement with the player, wherein Greizmann will wait till the summer before making any decision on his future when Madrid plan to swoop.
Real’s much hailed BBC frontline has been of little effect this season and will be replaced in the near future. Neither of the three is sure to be at the Bernabeu come next season. Perez has made use of this uncertainty to promise a place in the first eleven to Greizmann. This is something that neither Barcelona nor Manchester United can offer.
Barcelona has Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez as their experienced stalwarts upfront while the multi-million signing Ousmane Dembele will also warrant a place in the starting eleven. As far as Manchester United is concerned, Mourinho’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation doesn’t offer much room for players like Griezmann. Given Mourinho’s preference for a big, strong players up front, it is sure that Lukaku will not be dropped which might force Griezmann to play out of position.
The precariousness regarding the 26-year-old’s future is threatening to derail Atletico’s season. They are already out of the Champions League and it seems highly unlikely that any team will be able to catch up to Barcelona in the league. Given that Copa Del Rey and Europa League are the only two trophies realistically within the Rojiblancos’ sight, they will need to keep their focus.
This news comes as a real surprise as Real Madrid’s pursuit of other forwards has been much more aggressive than that of Griezmann. Without a doubt, the BBC will be replaced by new stars at the Bernabeu in the near future. With names like Neymar, Harry Kane, Eden Hazard, Mauro Icardi and now Griezmann being linked to Real, it’ll be interesting to see who will be unveiled as Real Madrid’s much-awaited Galactico signing in the summer.
