Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has accepted that club must now revise their target for the season and focus on finishing among the top four
Real Madrid slumped to a demoralising defeat against Villareal last night. The latest result was the fourth time Madrid lost this season. Despite bombarding Villareal’s goal with 28 shots, Madrid lost to a sole strike from Pablo Fornals 3 minutes from regulation time.
The loss meant that Los Blancos are now looking over their shoulder and in danger of being kicked out of the Champions League spots. Toni Kroos was well aware of Madrid’s position in the league table. The German conceded that the club must now focus on sealing a top-4 spot to ensure their Champions League qualification.
“We have to focus on qualifying for the Champions League…”
Speaking to BeIN Sports USA after the match, Kroos said, “We have to focus on qualifying for the Champions League next season. We have to think about our current position. I think this should be our goal for the remainder of the season.”
Real Madrid is now 16 points behind Barcelona having played the same number of matches. While 5th placed Villareal is just a point adrift.
“Sixteen points is very far away and now isn’t the time to think about anything other than the next game. We have to start gaining points once more.”
“This will allow Real Madrid to get closer to their goal of finishing inside the top four.”
It’s true that this is a difficult time for us and all Madridistas. But everybody who says we played a bad game today has no idea of football. It was a good performance and we have to continue. Still a lot to win this season!

Zidane’s men still have a chance to salvage their season. With their La Liga crown all but gone Los Blancos should use this to their advantage. The Spanish champions should now focus on making their Champions League campaign a success. They face Neymar led Paris Saint-Germain next month and will hope to get something positive out of the season by advancing to the latter stages of Champions League.
