The Premier League announced its arrival with a thumping start at the Emirates. In what was an end to end encounter in the packed Emirates, the Gunners managed to edge out the foxes 4 goals to 3. This shows that none of the team can be taken lightly, and Premier League this season would be more competitive than ever. Antonio Conte is well aware of the fact and has that defending the crown would not be easy at all. The Chelsea manager has been left fuming this transfer window, and looks keen to add a midfielder to his team after the departure of Matic to United and Lewis Becker joining Middlesbrough on loan, he is in die hard need of a player to meet his requirement.
Drinkwater: From Foxes to the Blues?
This looked like a reality some days before, but of late not many people would bet on the move to be completed. The Telegraph has made a claim that an initial bid of £15 million by the Blues was rejected by the Foxes, and it is still not clear if Chelsea are willing to pay £30 million, the amount deemed correct by Leicester for the 27-year old in the currently inflated market scenario. It is quite obvious that Drinkwater would prefer a move to the Stamford Bridge, but he can hardly do anything considering the fact that Conte has turned his head towards other options available for the same amount. Now it looks highly unlikely that Drinkwater would play for the Blues, if the reports in the Telegraph are to be considered.

Conte’s hunt for the midfielder continues
After a failed bid for Drinkwater as reported, Conte has been looking for some better alternatives. The former Manchester United player, Drinkwater had got a national team call in 2016 owing to his title winning season performance. But as of now, Conte has turned interest towards wantaway Everton play maker Ross Barkley, and Arsenal’s Oxlade-Chamberlain, both of whom are left with a year in their existing contracts. Barkley has been a top priority for Spurs, while Oxlade-Chamberlain is yet to agree on new terms with the Gunners. Meanwhile, it is also reported that Chelsea are willing to compete with Manchester United for signing Sergi Roberto from Barcelona, whose release clause stands at £36 million. But reports in Spain suggest that the versatile Roberto would prefer Spain rather than a move away.
What lies next for Chelsea?
Conte has understood his need for a midfielder and a wing-back this season. It is reported that Conte wants three more signings completed before the transfer window closes. Chelsea have made a signing in Bakayoko, but he is still recovering from the injury he sustained at the end of last season. Thus, it is quite clear that Chelsea want more addition to their side, with Conte still crying over the limited number of players in his squad. Though Conte is in die hard need of a midfielder, it looks unlikely that he would meet the £30 million being demanded by the Foxes for Drinkwater. Instead, they would look to grab the signature of Barkley and Chamberlain, who excelled in the wing-back role for Arsenal. As far as Drinkwater is considered, he would have to fight for his place in the King Power Stadium this season, as it all seems.
