Pique warned Josep Maria Bartomeu regarding Umtiti leering at big transfer in January
Manchester United seems interested in Samuel Umtiti and might take him away from Camp Nou. His teammate Gerard Pique made an attempt to keep him at Barcelona.
The former Lyon man has been given a release clause of £53million only, which Mourinho’s side is considering activate. Pique feels the release clause is very less considering Virgil van Dijk’s record-breaking £75m from Southampton to Liverpool.
However the French international feels he’s not valued at the club and wants to be in the playing XI alongside Pique instead of knocking against Vermaelen.
Manchester United showing interest in Umtiti
Manchester United have repeatedly been linked with a move for Varane ever since he joined Real Madrid from Lens in 2012. The France international has enjoyed a stunning rise at the Bernabeu. At the same time, he’s establishing himself as one of the most consistent defenders in world football.
Jose Mourinho was the one who plucked Varane from obscurity and brought him to the Bernabeu. Ever since leaving Real Madrid, Mourinho has been linked with making a move for the French international.
But Spanish outlet Don Balon says the 54-year-old has now switched focus to Barcelona’s Umtiti.
Barcelona coach said that he didn’t think that Umtiti would consider his transfer despite such a low release clause.
“I’m not worried about what clubs might or might not do. Umtiti is a great player and we expect him to stay at Barca for many more years and for him to enjoy his football with us.”, he said.
He also added saying, “As time goes by, that fee doesn’t seem so high at all, but the player still has to want to leave. We’re very happy with Umtiti and I’m sure he’s going to stay here for a very long time.”
Barcelona is a great place for one to build their career. Umtiti has got great opportunities lined up at Camp Nou. It wouldn’t be a good decision to leave Barcelona for some money. Nevertheless Manchester United is a good club and also a better to play under the guidance of Mourinho. It’s not been a long time since he has arrived at Camp Nou, so he has to struggle and work hard to find his place in the playing XI.
