RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita revealed that his father used to tell him about Liverpool and their talismanic captain Steven Gerrard.
Naby Keita has been making all the right noises during his last season in the Bundesliga. His all-round play has earned him rave reviews from around the continent. The box-to-box midfielder scored eight goals last season and assisted a further nine. He has continued with his fine form this season as well.
Keita’s performances prompted Liverpool to make a move for him in the summer. The cash-rich RB Leipzig were adamant that he won’t be sold this summer so instead agreed a £48 million pound transfer which will see Keita move to the Merseyside in July 2018. The 22-year-old will be a steal at this price if he keeps up the level of his performances. Liverpool even wanted him to join in January but RB Leipzig straight up refused their proposal.

In an interview with Goal, the midfielder revealed that his father used to tell him about Liverpool and captain fantastic Steven Gerrard. Keita revealed that his father was a huge Liverpool fan and his link with the Reds goes back to his childhood.
Naby Keita’s interview with Goal
Keita said, “My father is a huge [Liverpool] fan.”
“As far as back as I can remember, he has been talking about them. Before I even knew what Liverpool was as a kid, he was mad about them.”
“Of course, when he found about their interest and when the deal for next season was done, he was delighted. He wanted to speak about Istanbul, Steven Gerrard and every big game or player of this club.”
Naby Keita is one of the most under-rated midfielders in the world. It was extremely surprising to see that no other major club went in for the Guinean. Although he has had disciplinary issues, getting sent off thrice within a month, he will add a much-needed bite to the Reds’ midfield. Liverpool completed an extremely smart piece of business by completing his signing. Even if they’ll get him a season later then they wanted to. RB Leipzig are set to make a huge profit on a man they bought for £12.75 million in the summer of 2016.
Liverpool have had an inconsistent start to the season and they currently sit in fifth place. Their defence has been a cause of serious concern. His presence as a combative midfielder will alleviate a bit of pressure from the defenders’ shoulders. Liverpool’s start signing of the summer, Mohamed Salah has been a great buy. The Reds will certainly hope that the signing of Naby Keita will reap similar dividends.
