Los Blancos are planning to reinforce their defense to refresh the bad memories of the Catalan fans in Luis Figo like a transfer.
The Madrid-based club is whopping 14 points behind their arch-rivals Barcelona. Los Blancos were thrashed 3-0 in the El Clasico as their poor start to the La Liga title defense continues. President Perez is desperate to reduce the point-difference as he plans to raid the Camp Nou for defensive reinforcements.
Zidane’s men have been shaky at the back, allowing 14 goals in 16 games. Captain Ramos, Varane and youngsters Nacho and Jesus Vallejo have played well in patches but are lacking the consistency. Catalans, on the other hand, have the best defense in the league, conceding just 7 goals so far. The Frenchman Samuel Umtiti has been instrumental to Barcelona’s defense as the defender has grown from strength to strength.
The Next Luis Figo:
According to the reports in Diario Gol, Perez has turned his attention to the Catalan defender. The President has realized the transfer market is costly for the defenders with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk signing. Umtiti’s release clause is set at £53m, bargain in today’s market. Real Madrid is reportedly ready to pay the release clause to acquire the services of the Frenchman.
The transfer would be similar to the Luis Figo transfer of 2000 when the Portuguese moved to the Santiago Bernabeu after 5 successful seasons at the Catalan capital.

Both the clubs will be back in action in the round if 16 of Copa Del Rey. Barca will take on Celta Vigo while Real Madrid will face the second division club Numancia.
Samuel Umtiti has become an integral part of Barca’s defense and it is hard to imagine him leaving the Camp Nou where he is tagged as the next Puyol. So why would he instead become the next Luis Figo? Well, because transfer market is crazy. The Barca board should renew the Frenchman’s contract as soon as possible.
