It is evident to everyone how swift Manchester City have been in their transfer business. Though questions have been raised regarding the money involved in the transfers of their full-backs, Benjamin Mendy & Kyle Walker, but it seems like Pep has finally found the final pieces of the jigsaw to the solution of their defensive problems.
Guardiola has spent around £200m this summer to bring in five players and it seems like he’s happy with his current squad.
Building a squad of Young players:
When he was asked about the how he has spent mostly on the young players, he said.
“We want to put energy in the team for the next five years,” said Guardiola.
“We have spent, of course, but all the teams have spent.
“In the next few years City will buy one, two, maybe three players. The current players are young and will stay for the future.”
It is clear that Pep is trying to build a squad for the future as they had one of the oldest squads in the Premier league last season with an average age of 28.9 years.
With the new arrivals and the departures of Aleksandar Kolarov, 31, Gael Clichy, 32, and Pablo Zabaleta, 32, the average age of the City squad has reduced to 25.
Pep on their chances to lift the title:
As suggested by most of the football experts, City are the favourites to lift the Premier league trophy this year but
“Last season at my first press conference we were favourites, so nothing has changed,” he added. “I was confident then too.
“We are going to see at the end of the season what happens.”
Even having done arguably the best transfer business this season, Pep rather seems confident about his team and prefers to speak with a strong display on the pitch.
Opening the door to the possibility of more transfers:
In his first press conference of the new season, Pep Guardiola confirmed that there will be more transfers before the window shuts in 20 days.
“There is still 20 days left and there will be more transfers,” Pep told the press at the CFA.
City have done a speedy transfer business this season and it looks like they are ready to give a strong fight for the premier league title. If we compare their current squad to their squads of previous seasons, it surely seems one of their best squads over the last few years.
