Three Things That All Chelsea Fans Must Know About Michael Emenalo

Michael Emenalo

Just when things started looking better for Premier League champions Chelsea as they beat fierce rivals Manchester United 1-0, it seems that the Blues won’t be able to celebrate the win for too long. This is mainly because of the shocking news that spread across social media on Monday. It was confirmed on social media and by various media outlets that the club’s technical director Michael Emenalo has quit his job, after spending 10 long years with the Londoners.

This would have come as a huge shock to the management and club owner Roman Abramovich, who would have thought that things were slowly going their way now.

The 52 year old former Nigeria international joined the west London outfit back in 2007 and finally decided that it was high time to leave the club, due to his unhappiness over the future of the current Chelsea boss.

There were reports that Carlo Ancelotti would be replacing the Italian main-man at Stamford Bridge, after Conte failing to impress this term, as his team started off poorly, though have recovered to an extent now.

During his time with the Londoners, the team has managed to win three league titles, along with an FA Cup and League title as well domestically. They have also grabbed the Champions League and Europa League title as well during his tenure with the Blues.

In his tenure with the club, Conte is the 10th manager that he has worked with and the former Notts County man has played a vital role in lifting the club up in the Abramovich era.

The transfer window did not yield the best results for the west London outfit, due to which there were tensions between the Italian coach, Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia, which could have been one more reason for his departure.

Three Things That You Need To Know About Him-

3. Top Transfers-

Out of a long list of players that joined the Blues during Emenalo’s time with the west London outfit, five of his major signings include current stars like Kante, Hazard and Cesar Azpilicueta. Other two major signings were Spanish internationals and former Chelsea stars Juan Mata and Diego Costa. All of these stars have won the league with the Londoners and have been quite successful, leaking their mark in the top flight of English football. Apart from these signings, a lot of young talented stars were scouted by him as well, who have grown up to make a name for themselves.

Some of the failed ones in recent times however included the deals for Lukaku, Ross Barkley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Juventus star Alex Sandro, which had handed the advantage in recent times to the club’s fierce rivals.

2.  Roman Abramovich’s Close Friend And Advisor-

He was not just the technical director of the club, but a close friend to owner Roman Abramovich. He was the one person who gave him constant advice and support in terms of matters relating to the club and which players to buy, along with whom to sell as well. He was not really pleased with Mourinho’s return to the club back in 2013 and had tried to resign and leave at that point too.

1. Brought Conte To The Bridge-

One of the best things that the former Nigerian international might have done for the Londoners would have been convincing the club to sign Antonio Conte and bringing him to Stamford Bridge, with the Italian manager lifting the league title in his debut season in England. The ex-Juventus manager has really changed things around at Chelsea and has made the team look quite solid and tactically sound. Though his side have not really hit it off this term, they did really well last season and will want to replicate those kinds of performances once again.

Author’s Take-

What’s done is done. At the moment, Conte needs to focus on the job at hand and ensure that his team get all three points when they face off against West Brom, after the international break. They are trailing Manchester City by nine points at the moment and there is still a long way to go, if they wish to try and retain the Premier League title this season.
