T20 is a format which is most enjoyed by the audience. One the major reasons for its success is the “batting style”, and is often regarded as batsman’s game. But when batsmen fail to deliver big knocks, the game feels boring and the fans do not enjoy the game. Here are the top 10 “Worst” T20 batsmen of 2017.
1. David Miller:
“Killer Miller” has been one biggest disappointment of T20 format. In 11 innings he has only been able to score 209 runs, with 50 runs being his highest score this year. His performance in the IPL this year was poor, consequently picking him up four only 4 matches. Miller is yet to hit his form for this year.
2. Chris Gayle:
Talking about disappointment, Chris Gayle is next in the list. One of the most beloved players of RCB, Mr. Gayle has yet again flopped in this year’s IPL and Pakistani Super League. His selection in national squad after 16 months itself shows inconsistent form. Out of 19 innings, he has scored 389 runs. With an average of 19.89, Gayle has hit a new low this year.
The upcoming star of South Africa, Chris Morris has had a rough journey in this format with respect to batting. In 12 innings, he has scored 183 runs with only one half-century. His contribution to Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2016 was humongous as he emerged to be one the most dangerous batsmen of the club, but couldn’t quite carry on the charm to the next edition. He hasn’t been able to convert his opportunity into big knocks till now.
4. Thisara Perera:
Sri Lankan giant, Thisara Perera is also on this list. He is known for his limited overs talent. In 12 innings, he has just scored 114 runs which are considered to be less from big-hitters like him. He has had a poor performance at Big Bash League this year and it not no different in IPL as well. With 28* being his highest, T Perera’s position in T20 format is now at stake.
5. Shoaib Malik:
Pakistan’s T20 specialist, Shoaib Malik has failed to perform with the bat this year. He has scored only one half-century this year in the Pakistani Super League. In 14 innings, he could score 279 runs, yielding him an average of 25.36, whereas his overall T20 average is close to 40. He needs to pull up his socks to cope up with the competition around.

6. M S Dhoni:
Disappointing yet true, the most feared finisher of all times, MS Dhoni is one among the list. After being dethroned as RPS captain, he has had a string of low scores. In 19 innings, he has scored 389 runs with only two half-centuries despite being sent up the order. The fact that Dhoni is consuming many dot balls even in T20 is saddening. Dhoni is yet to have a comeback in this format.
7. Shahid Afridi:
“Boom Boom Afridi” hasn’t been explosive this time. He is a dangerous hitter and can make sure the ball flies out of the stadium. Unfortunately, this year he batted for 13 innings out of which he has scored 221 runs with 51* being his highest. His average is just 18.41 which is considered to be one of the lowest among hard-hitters. he failed to perform in both Pakistani Super League and NatWest T20 Blast.
8. Shane Watson:
Yet another master-class batsman who has failed to deliver at international level is Shane Watson. Having played for 22 innings, he has scored 346 runs with 55 runs being his highest. His performance in IPL, as well as Big Bash League, has been an utter disappointment. His highest score in IPL this year is 24, clearly showing deterioration in his batting performance. With his current form, it wouldn’t be surprising if he is not bought by any team in 2018 edition of IPL.
9. Rohit Sharma:
The “Hitman” has hit a new low in his career. Regarded as one the most dangerous batsmen of Mumbai Indians, the skipper Rohit Sharma hasn’t been able to prove it this year. The string of single digited scores has haunted him throughout the tournament. In 16 inning, he has scored 333 runs and his average of 23.78 is below par considering his potential. His performance hasn’t been criticized much because of his team winning the IPL 2017 title.
10. Carlos Braithwaite:
The Carrabien who took the ICC T20 finals from the hands of England hasn’t shown appreciable performance this year. C Braithwaite has been dropped off the team due to his fitness issues. He hasn’t been able to display his power hitting since 2016 T20 World Cup. In 11 matches, he has scored 113 runs. He hasn’t been able to convert his opportunities into big knocks. The fireworks for this man in T20 is still awaited.
