Jose Mourinho has reportedly issued an ultimatum to his board to do anything and everything in their power to sign Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Manchester United have also joined the race for the young German midfielder. Goretzka is out of contract in the summer, and then he can join any team of his choice for zilch. The German star has put a lot of European giants on alert. Jose Mourinho is reportedly eager to land the 22-year-old as soon as possible.
Injuries to Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini has exposed United’s midfield. Therefore, the Portuguese manager is keen to add Goretzka to his ranks. There have been rumours of Fellaini eyeing a move away from the Old Trafford, which would be a blow for The Red Devils.
Goretzka is hailed by many pundits as one of the brightest young talents in the world right now. The German will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of Germany come January. According to Sunday Express Mourinho wants United to secure Goretzka signature at all costs.

Goretzka a target for United
Manchester United are in dire need of a number 10, with Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil also being courted by Mourinho. The Red Devils signed Henrikh Mkhitaryan last season. His performances this term, however, have been openly criticised by the Portuguese coach.
Spanish midfielder Juan Mata has also been inconsistent with his performances. Thus, Jose Mourinho wants Leon Goretzka to take over the number 10 role at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old already has four goals for the Bundesliga club and would be a quality signing for United at no cost.
However, signing Goretzka won’t be a piece of cake as a lot of clubs are surrounding Schalke like sharks. Premier League rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are also known to be keeping tabs on the German. La Liga giants Barcelona are also looking to sign the talented German.
Schalke have also complicated Mourinho’s task by offering the 22-year-old star a new contract. The contract extension would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history. Henceforth, Mourinho has requested his bosses at United, to tie up the German youngster before other clubs can get involved in the saga.
Jose Mourinho is a man of authority and after his personal request, the United board will definitely act accordingly. The Portuguese desires to bolster his midfield and the German would certainly elevate the Red Devils’ performance levels in the centre of the park. Goretzka may want to wait until the World Cup to make his final decision but surely, both Jose Mourinho and Schalke have made theirs.
