Gary Neville gives straight advice to Lingard on his Man United future

Jesse Lingard is finally back to his best form while on loan at West Ham United. Manchester United legend, Gary Neville however, gave an assessment on Lingard’ future and has doubts over his success at his parent club after his loan spell ends.

United born and bred, Jesse Lingard has been a lifelong Red. He joined the club’s youth academy at the age of 7 and rose through all the categories. He spent more than a decade and won FA Youth Cup before getting his first-team call-up in 2011. Jesse was called to the squad only twice that season and remained an unused sub on both occasions.

To get more first-team exposure, Lingard was sent on short loan spells at various clubs for the next 3 seasons. Before being sent on his final loan spell, he was given his first Manchester United debut under Louis Van Gaal as a substitute.

Since then, he has been a regular part of the team and a promising prospect. Under Van Gaal he got the boost he required as the manager trusted in the youth program. Lingard was playing every match and even performed well every now and then. However, after the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the coach, there was a dip in his performance.

Jessie Lingard scored a solo goal for West Ham against Wolves

Despite his dry run, Ole completely trusted the United academy product. After giving tons of opportunities to improve, the manager knew it would be difficult for him to land a spot in the United squad. So in the January transfer window this season, he was loaned out to West Ham, where he is managed by his former boss, David Moyes.

Neville says Jesse Lingard must leave United if he wants to play

Since joining The Hammers, Lingard has been phenomenal. He used to be taunted with the term ‘Ligardinho’ and he has taken it personally with performances similar to the name.

Lingard has been their lead man and has played all of the Premier League fixtures. Along with brilliant performances, he has scored 6 goals and assisted 3 in just 8 matches.

The purpose of sending the 28-year-old midfielder on loan has been successful. He was sent out to regain his form and he has done that exceptionally. He is very happy with the playtime he has been getting which brings us to the point if he can grab the same spot if he returns to United.

After defeating Wolves, the ex-United player, Neville was asked if Lingard could get back in the United squad. He replied by saying it depends on the role he is offered at the club. According to him, Jesse won’t be getting the desired time at United, and if he wishes to play regularly, he should join The Hammers.

If he’s willing to go back there and compete and be a player like that, he could. Daniel James has come in for the last few weeks and he’s out of the team again. Does he want to be that type of player who’s a bit in and out?

There’s no doubt he can play for Manchester United but he’d have to be in that role.” – Gary Neville told Sky Sports.

West Ham wanted to insert an option to buy in the deal, but United disagreed with that. Given the form, they will want to make his move permanent and a deal of £15 million should do it. However, Jesse’s sprout has made United ask for double of what he currently values.
