Manchester United have been always highly linked to Gareth Bale since his exhilarating performances for Spurs. Former Manchester United boss, David Moyes lost the battle to sign Gareth Bale to Real Madrid when the Welshman move from English Capital to Spanish Capital in 2013/14 season. During LVGs tenure at United, Bale again was in rumours for a move to English giants after the reports of him being targeted by Real Madrid fans due to the bad form and bring unsettled came out, now when Jose Mourinho has came in, a move for Gareth Bale again is making noises.
But, a two time Champions League winner with Real Madrid and now taking the central stage at the club, Gareth Bale doesn’t seem to be in any mood to leave Los Blancos.
So, we look at the three alternatives which Manchester United could sign:
1. Antoine Griezmann
The Frenchman has been in tremendous for Atletico Madrid from past 2 seasons, now being ranked with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar Jr., Griezmann has certainly taken the centre stage for a move to Europe’s any big clubs. Manchester United need a stalwart and someone to replace an aging Wayne Rooney, Griezmann is known to be a boyhood fan of David Beckham and Manchester United, so if Jose Mourinho could turn his head around to look for World Class players, Griezmann will certainly fit the profile and his affection for the English club could help Jose Mourinho to get him from Atletico, who are trying everything to keep a hold onto him.
The out of favour Columbian at Real Madrid doesn’t need any introduction of his star value and of his footballing skills. Rodriguez has been playing second fiddle to Gareth Bale and rarely gets to start games since Zinedine Zidane has been in charge of the Los Blancos. Manchester United lack the pace and creativity upfront and Rodriguez has abundance if it in him, he can slot in to the central attacking midfielder role and can also play on the either side of the wings. Being neglected and not getting enough game time could prove helpful for United in getting him for a lower fee. He can light up Old Trafford with his set pieces too.
3. Marco Reus
Dortmund star has seen most of his fellow friends leave for Bayern Munich and other big clubs. He’s been very loyal for Bourssia Dortmund and has denied moves to certain big clubs in past but now he’s at the time of his career when he’d like to win trophies and will be open for a move if Manchester United come calling. Reus has endured his fair share of heartbreak, missing both the FIFA 2014 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2016 as well as chunks of the last three seasons for Dortmund through injury even after some great performances for club and country.
German star could play as the play-maker, on wings higher up the pitch and could also play as LM. His creativity and shrewd game are the greatest assets of him. If Manchester United are to make a move for a forward and they either fail to land Gareth Bale or look for other options then Antoine Griezmann, James Rodriguez and Marco fit their profile the best.
