UCL action resumes this week. With UCL game week 2 getting underway we have some spicy encounters to witness. UCL always brings some great action and climax at times. One of the spicy encounters to watch out for will be Ajax coming up against Liverpool at Anfield.
Coming into Liverpool they are going through tough phases for the first time under Jurgen Klopp. In the Premier League Liverpool has got some tough results to swallow. They are also dealing with injury crises wherein most of their first team players are injured. In the Champions League (UCL) they started their campaign in the most disastrous way. Liverpool went to Naples and was completely outplayed in that game. Even their manager Jurgen Klopp said after that Naples loss, “ It was one of the worst loss since I have been here”
Coming into Ajax they have had a chance at helms. Their previous coach Erik Ten Hag went and joined Manchester United. So Ajax went in and got Alfred Schreuder as their new manager. Under Schreuder Ajax had a dream start to their campaign. They have had a perfect start winning 6 out of 6 games in the Dutch league. Coming into the UCL they started excellently when they defeated Rangers by a 4-0 margin.
With Liverpool coming into this all-important UCL clash with a point to prove they will go all out especially considering the fact that it’s a home game for them. Let’s see 3 players who will play a crucial role in the Liverpool vs Ajax UCL clash.
3 Players to watch out for in Liverpool vs Ajax UCL clash
Luis Diaz (Liverpool)
One of the important players for Liverpool will be their Colombian signing Luis Diaz. Diaz joined Liverpool back in January for a whopping 45 million. Since Joining Liverpool Diaz has had an instant impact. He is one of few players who has instantly impressed Klopp and got into the starting XI.
After Mane left Liverpool for Bayern, Luis Diaz took up that left-wing role. Since the start of the season, Liverpool has been struggling but Diaz has had a good start to his season. He has scored 3 goals in the premier league and also scored their only goal against Naples in UCL.
If Liverpool has any chance of beating in form Ajax then Luis Diaz should have one of his greatest games in a Liverpool jersey. Thus one of few players to watch out for in this clash.
Mo Salah (Liverpool)
The next player in line whom one need to watch out for in this clash will be Mohammed Salah. Salah has been Liverpool’s best player over the years. He has been a constant performer for the Reds. At Anfield Salah is a completely different beast, he scores at their home for fun.
Salah was the top scorer last season in the premier league. He was also Liverpool’s top scorer in last year’s UCL campaign. But this season Salah has gone blank for the past few weeks. He hasn’t had the same impact on the games as he used to have. In this season’s campaign in 7 games Salah has only scored twice. He is also yet to open his account in the UCL season.
With Liverpool coming up against in form Ajax. Liverpool will expect Mo. Salah is to return to form and they would want him to lead their attack, especially after their embarrassing loss to Naples.
Steven Bergwijn (Ajax)
Ajax has been in form. Under Schreuder Ajax has been a free-flowing team. They have been scoring goals left right and center. One of the main candidates for their success so far this season has been Steven Bergwijn.
Bergwijn joined Ajax after his unsuccessful spell in the premier league with Tottenham Hotspurs. Bergwijn joined from Spurs for a fee of around 30 million. Since joining Bergwijn has been their star performer for them. Bergwijn has scored in all the matches they have played so far. Bergwijn has scored 7 goals in 7 matches so far in all competitions for Ajax.
Coming onto their clash against Liverpool. Steven Bergwijn will play a crucial role, especially considering his premier league past and experience playing on big nights in Premier league stadiums. If Ajax has any chance to beat Liverpool at their home in Anfield then Steven Bergwijn will have to be on top of his game.
