With UCL game week 2 upcoming this midweek. We will witness a lot of drama and excitement all over Europe. UCL is treated as a festival in Europe and all stakeholders involved be it players or managers or club owners etc.
In this game week, we have some spicy fixtures in UCL wherein we will see evenly contested encounters between evenly matched teams. With UCL coming at a fast pace this season players would want to kick start their UCL campaign as fast as they could to gain some advantage over their rivalry.
In the previous game week, we have seen some players kick-starting their UCL campaign in style while some players went blank. The players that blank would want to have bangs this week to prove themselves.
So with UCL game week 2 getting underway tomorrow let’s look at a few players who might be the ones around whom all the UCL action will revolve this weekend.
3 players to watch out for in this week’s UCL fixtures
1. Robert Lewandowski
The first name on your list is none other than the best goal scorer in the current crop of players. It’s the Polish International Robert Lewandowski. He has been in terrific form as usual and is scoring goals for fun be it in any competition across Europe.
Lewandowski before the start of this season has had a big move away from his usual league. The Polish International moved from Bayern Munich to FC Barcelona for a price of 50 million. He was signed by Barcelona as their star signing in the hope that with his presence they can get the club back on track.
Unfortunately, this transfer did go well with Bayern. The Bayern board, the fans and even the manager criticized Barcelona for poaching and taking away their best goal scorer. The former Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the following on this Lewandowski transfer –
“ What can Barcelona offer Lewandowski that Bayern cannot.” He said Lewandowski is an intelligent person and he likes winning but unfortunately, I don’t think he can currently win more at Barca than at Bayern”
But since joining Barcelona Lewandowski has been on roll. He has scored in all Barcelona matches except one. He has also been a playmaker at times when he has created chances for his teammates. Overall speaking Lewandowski has had a huge impact on Barcelona. Coming onto his UCL he is currently the top scorer in the Champions League after he recorded a hat trick in the first game week of UCL.
With him coming up against his former team, especially after animosity between him and Bayern management. He would definitely want to score this week since he has points to prove. Thus he is one player to look out for in this UCL game week.
2. Erling Haaland
The second player on our list is none other than Erling Haaland. Haaland has been another talent in world football whose stocks are rising. Haaland has been phenomenal since coming on the champions league stage right from his Salzburg days.
Before the start of the season, Haaland too made a move just like his counterpart Lewandowski. But Haaland chose to go to the Premier League. Erling Haaland was signed by Manchester City after triggering his release clause of 60 million.
Since joining Manchester City Haaland has become more dangerous and lethal. Haaland has so far scored 10 goals and one assist in the premier league. These 10 goals also included 2 back to back hat tricks. With a world-class team around him, Haaland has become a pro finisher and scored goals for fun in a Manchester City jersey.
In UCL Haaland had an immediate impact in the Manchester blue jersey. In GW 1 in UCL Haaland scored a brace against Sevilla and helped his team to Seville with a margin of 4 goals to nil. With his former team Borussia Dortmund visiting his new fortress the Etihad Stadium, Haaland will be eager to perform against his former club. The Norwegian would cherish this opportunity to get home supporters roaring with an early goal against his former team. Thus with Haaland coming up against his former team, watch out for him this week in UCL.
3. Kylian Mbappe
The final player on our list is the French superstar Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchmen is another astonishing player. Mbappe is destined to be one of the best players in the upcoming years. Before the start of the season, Mbappe had a saga of his own. Firstly it was tipped that he would join Real Madrid but then he took U-turn and announced his future to PSG. He said with his renewal.
“ I’m happy to stay at PSG and I want to win more titles with PSG, especially the Champions League”
Mbappe has scored 6 goals from 7 games in Ligue 1. Along with Messi and Neymar, the trio has been a dangerous front 3 and is scoring goals for fun. In UCL so far in game week, 1 Mbappe has scored a brace against Juventus which resulted in PSG winning against Juventus by 2 goals.
With PSG facing Maccabi Haifa who is appearing for the first time in UCL, it is a perfect opportunity for Mbappe to score a hat trick and get one step closer to UCL golden boot and potential Ballon Or Dor. Thus Mbappe is surely the player to watch out for this UCL game week.
