The South African team is currently on a tour of India.India won the first Test of the series and secured a 1-0 lead in the 3-match Test series. The next match of the series will be played in Pune from 10 October. For a long time now, India’s Test team is struggling to find out the right combination in the opening slot. But in the first Test match against South Africa, Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal gave a strong start to the team by batting brilliantly. After this partnership and innings from both of them, this particular problem of the team now seems to be somewhat over. India won the first Test match by a big margin of 203 runs. The batsmen as well as the bowlers played an important role in securing this huge win. The pitch was extremely helpful to the spin bowlers as a result of which the South African batsmen suffered in front of the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Let’s take a look at those 3 Players whom Virat Kohli can drop ahead of the Second Test against South Africa:
1. Wriddhiman Saha
Indian cricket team’s Wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha is an excellent wicketkeeper. But, Saha can be dropped from the team ahead of the Second Test against South Africa in Pune.
After recovering from his injury, Saha returned to the Indian Squad against the West Indies in the Carribean but did not get a chance to feature in the playing eleven. But Rishabh Pant’s consistent disappointing performance paved the way for Saha to feature in the Playing XI against South Africa in the First Test.
But Saha could not score any special runs with the bat and he also missed one or two catches which he would normally take. Looking at all these things, it can be said that in the second Test match, captain Virat Kohli may think about giving Rishabh Pant a chance again by dropping Wriddhiman Saha.
2. Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma, one of the senior spearhead of this Indian pace attack in Test Cricket, did not work well on Indian pitches in the 1st Test against South Africa in Vishakapatnam. In fact, India’s pitches help spin bowlers a lot and does not have much aid for the pace bowlers. Hence, Ishant Sharma suffered and failed to take wickets in the First Test.
Ishant got only one wicket in the first innings and that was of Temba Bavuma. Not only this, Ishant bowled only 7 overs in the Second Innings but the wicket column remained empty for him. He was also not causing any sort of trouble for the Proteas batsmen.
Therefore, it can be said that Ishant Sharma may be dropped from the team in the Second Test match. If Ishant Sharma is dropped from the team, fast bowler Umesh Yadav can be included in the playing eleven.
3. Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari, who confirmed his place in the middle order of Team India with his incredible batting performances in the West Indies tour, can also be dropped in the second Test match by captain Virat Kohli. Hanuma Vihari hit a century against West Indies and also scored a fine half ccentury.
After these brilliant innings against West Indies, Hanuma Vihari’s bat against South Africa in the First Test remained silent. In the first innings, he scored only 10 runs. If Hanuma Vihari is left out of the team in the Second Test, Shubman Gill may be given a chance to make his test debut.
Let me tell you, young talent Shubman Gill has been included by the selectors in India’s Squad in this Test Series as a backup opener and middle order batsman. Therefore, when needed, captain Kohli can take the decision to include Gill in the playing eleven.
