Ernesto Valverde’s FC Barcelona has reportedly taken a decision regarding their first signing of this decade. The Spanish champions are currently pursuing a long-term deal for the young forward Dani Olmo from Dinamo Zagreb.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is already in contact with the Croatian club. They have made an offer for the Spaniard who is highly rated by the scouts at the club. Zagreb is currently demanding 40 million for the youngster. Olma recently dropped a major hint about his future. He claimed that his time in Croatia is coming to an end.
Amid interest from Manchester United, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid, Valverde is keen on an agreement right now that would bring the youngster to the Camp Nou in the summer. Barcelona has been looking for a back-up for Luiz Suarez for a long time now. But all their attempts in the past have been unsuccessful.
Olmo’s journey at a glimpse
A product of the La Masia youth system at the Catalonian side, Dani Olmo moved to the Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16 to make a name for himself in the world football. He stepped into the spotlight after performing impressively for the Spanish under 21 side in the European championship.
Dani Olmo was the only positive from Zagreb’s Champions League campaign this season where they could win only one of their six games. As a result, they ended up in the fourth position. Henceforth, they failed to qualify for the knockouts of both the Champions League and the Europa League. Olmo scored twice in those six games.
Whether Barcelona ends up signing Olmo or not, it’s certain that he would be playing for a top European club next season. The Catalonian side already has quite a few young and talented forwards in their squad. But none of them serves as a proper replacement for Suarez. Bringing in a more experienced centre-forward than Olma like Lautaro Martinez or Timo Werner would be a better solution to this problem.
