Arsenal might as well go with an attempt of signing RB Salsburg midfielder Enock Mwepu in order to bolster the middle of the park. There are reports of the same by the football website Gooner Fanzine (h/t Football London). Arsenal has very recently added the Zambian international into the list of targeted midfielders.
The Gunners are already on the lookout to upgrade several positions of the squad. The change and progress in the squad is something that even Mikel Arteta has spoken about it. One of the most talked about the position is the midfield. Both Mikel Arteta and Technical director Edu have expressed their desire to sign a new midfielder by the end of this month.
Recruitment in the central midfield has become Arsenal’s major concern even though there are players with the likes of Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock, Granit Xhaka, and Dani Ceballos. Still, the number isn’t sufficient. Earlier Arsenal was Monitoring the situation of Brighton’s Yves Bissouma. However, the North Londoners believe Enock Mwepu would be a cheaper option.
Here is why Arsenal should take a punt on Enock Mwepu?
The 23-year-old might be everything Arsenal would need in order to bolster the midfield. The 6foot long started his career with NAPSA Stars and Kafue Celtic in Zambia. Later in 2017, he made a move to RB Salzburg. Mwepu was promoted to the senior team after having a successful loan spell at feeder club Leifering in the Austrian second-tier.
Mwepu plays the main role in holding the midfield position. Only in few years at Salzburg, he’s developed a commander pressing. He is versatile and can be deployed in a defensive midfield, box-to-box, and occasionally in the right midfield slot. Moreover, he can easily close the opponent down and win the ball.
The midfielder is in the motion of reaching the heights in this season as well. He has contributed to 3 goals and 4 assists in 21 appearances. There were also some eye-catching domestic performances from the group stages of the Champions League.
Arsenal would get a talented, wise, and versatile player on some feasible basis. Mor over the partnership of Mwepu and Partey alongside the defensive back four would certainly be a sight to witness. Mwepu not only focuses on defensive play and winning the ball but also on making passes and creating opportunities. Something that would benefit Arsenal in a long term.
The Zambian international has undergone sufficient progress and development at the Salzburg. He has created his own level again some very talented and experienced opposition in the Champions League. Not only the risk is worth taking but it would also give an additional option in the midfield.
Arsenal midfielder and the summer deadline day signing Thomas Partey was signed after making a big-money move with several hopes. However, the series of injuries hindered his half of the campaign where he could only play 4 PL fixtures for Arteta’s side so far.
Mohamed Elneny returned from a loan move in the summer. He’s very well reestablished his position in the squad. After becoming a key player. Granit Xhaka is also in the books of underperforming players along with the Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos. He might also make a return to the Spanish giants in the coming transfer window.
Salzburg is known to transform talented youngsters very effectively into young and promising players. Some of the elite academy players are spread across the globe and making new records. One such example is of Erling Braut Haaland who has taken the Bundesliga to another level.
Mwepu is young, has room for development and develop a new vision, and looks promising by taking a look at his Salzburg Tally. He is creative and his work rate complements his versatility. The Bundesliga outfit wouldn’t ask for an excessive fee and it might bring the change Arteta wants to see.
