Things are going from bad to worse for Liverpool. The Reds are having a really bad season after their latest defeat against rivals Manchester United. Things just look completely different from last season’s title-winning campaign. The team is struggling and manager Jurgen Klopp is desperate to get back to winning ways.
Liverpool in their last 7 games have won only 1 with 3 losses. Their unbeaten record at Anfield too came to a halt as they lost 1-0 to Burnley in the Premier League.
Manchester United added salt to their wounds as they went on to defeat the club 3-2 and head to the next stage of the FA Cup. The team has had poor luck with injuries too as they are missing some key names.
Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all three of the clubs’ first choice center backs were missing against Manchester United. Van Dijk’s leadership was clearly missed as the defensive line looked lost when the goals were conceded.

However, defense hasn’t been the main problem for Liverpool. The club is struggling offensively too. In fact, they were unable to score in their last 4 games in the Premier League.
Klopp’s worries will be more on the defensive end as we enter the second half of the season. The manager has publicly spoken that there is a need for a defensive signing.
Liverpool Were Interested in Sokratis Papastathopoulos:

It was a first start for 19-year-old Rhys Williams against Manchester United, but his inexperience was quite evident on the field. After the loss, it looks evident that Liverpool needs a defensive signing.
“I am not a five-year-old kid anymore who if I don’t get what I want, I start crying,” Klopp said.“Most of the time in my life I didn’t get what I want. “I’m responsible for a big part of this club, but there are people responsible for the whole thing.
I cannot make their decisions. I know they are with us, they want to support us and they do. “Now we talk here about a center-half, yes it would help, 100 percent.” Clearly, he is frustrated with the current situation.
Although Liverpool had made contact with Sokratis according to The Athletic. The player had worked with Klopp when later was in charge of Dortmund. However, a reunion does not really look on the cards soon as he joined Olympiacos on 25th January as a free agent.
Sokratis is 32, he was recently let go by Arsenal and was a free agent for a while. However, he wasn’t in the best of forms for Arsenal.
There is one week left in the transfer window and time is running out for the Reds. If they fail to find any other alternative then they will struggle in defence for the rest of this season as well.
