Afghan cricketer Najeebullah in ICU after road accident

In shocking news to the cricket fraternity, Najeebullah Tarakai is hospitalised after being rammed by a car. The Afghanistan opening batsman is in serious condition at the moment and is fighting for life.

The cricket fraternity has come in unison to offer their prayers for the cricketer who is in critical condition. The unexpected accident took place on Friday when Najeebullah Tarakai was casually crossing a road in Eastern Nangarhar.

But little did he know that he would come across a speeding car as the vehicle hit him on the spot. The cricketer picked up massive injuries. After which, he was admitted to the hospital.

Quoting Nazim Zar Abdulrahimzai, cricbuzz reported that the Afghan cricketer is in Intesive Care Unit (ICU). According to Afghanistan Cricket Board’s interim chief executive, Najeebullah Tarakai met with a road accident on Friday.

Abdulrahimzai further added saying that the cricketer’s condition is unstable. There has been no development in his health. The doctor said the cricketer’s health condition is critical.

Tarakai’s career at Afghanistan

Talking about Najeebullah’s career, he made his international debut in March 2014. Since then he represented the national cricket team in two different formats. He played 12 T20I matches and only one ODI for Afghanistan.

As far T20Is are concerned, he scored 258 runs and a fifty to his name. The Afghanistan opening batsman has played 24 first-class games in his career. He has managed to live up to his reputation as he scored 2030 runs at a pretty good average of 47.20.

He has hit 6 centuries and 10 fifties to his name. In 17 List A games, he scored 553 runs at 32.52 including a hundred and three half-centuries.

Najeeb Tarakai couldn’t make the grade at international level due to the presence of Shahzad and Zazai. This is the main reason why he is finding it hard to find a place in the playing XI.

He has represented one ODI in his cricketing career and is yet to get more opportunities. In order to feature more games, he will have play incredibly well to get chances in the times to come.
