Andrea Pirlo picked his favourites to win the Champion League this season. However, the former Juventus and World Cup Winner didn’t pick this La Liga team as his favourites.
This season’s Champions League seems to be an open race. With the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City finding momentum, it’s tough to predict who will win this year’s Champions League. With Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus, the Serie A champions also look favourites to win the famous trophy. Former Juventus player and Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has picked his favourite teams to win the Champions League.
Former World Cup winner Andrea Pirlo believes Liverpool and Barcelona are among the contenders for the Champions League. Both Liverpool and Barcelona are at top of the league of their respective domestic leagues. Liverpool are sharing the top spot with reining champions Manchester City. However, the Italian legend has snubbed reigning European Champions Real Madrid as contenders for the elusive trophy.
The La Liga giants lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus during the summer and have started the season poorly and the Italian legend doesn’t believe Real Madrid will win the Champions League trophy for the fourth time in a row. Real Madrid are currently ten points adrift of top of the table in La Liga and have sacked their manager Julien Lopetegui following Madrid’s 5-1 defeat in the El-Classico.
Pirlo told Sky Italia, “There are four or five teams, including Juve. Then there are Liverpool, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich. The teams are more or less those. While the championship is a thing in itself, Juventus has shown and is proving to be a step or two steps above the others.” Cristiano Ronaldo will be hunting for his sixth Champions League trophy this season with his new club Juventus. The Portuguese forward previously won it with Manchester United and has won fourth times with La Liga gaints Real Madrid.
Andrea Pirlo may be right. The likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus are looking favourites to win the Champions League. However, you can snub Real Madrid when it comes to Champions League. The Los Blancos were in the same situation three years ago and they appointed Zidane as coach and that season they won the Champions League. But this season’s Champions League is indeed an open race and no single club is favourite to win it.
