Antonio Conte: Diego Costa didn’t deserve yellow card

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has said that Chelsea forward Diego Costa didn’t deserve a yellow card.

On Saturday, Costa was booked early during Crystal Palace v Chelsea where the Spanish striker went on to score the winning goal. But this was his 5th yellow card of the season; thereby he will be suspended for the next game.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said, Costa didn’t deserve the yellow card in that situation. In the past 11 matches, Diego Costa hasn’t received any single bookings which made it easy for both the player and team.

“Diego is playing very well,” Conte told Sky Sports. “It’s a pity today that he took a yellow card, also [N’Golo] Kante [who will also miss the Bournemouth game].”

“He doesn’t deserve this yellow card in my opinion. He’s playing for the team and this is the most important thing for us.”

Chelsea who are in a 11 match winning streak will face Bournemouth next week where Conte will have to find a replacement for suspended Diego Costa.

Conte said “It wasn’t easy to win our 11 games in a row. It’s fantastic. I’m pleased for my players because they deserve this.”

Michy Batshuayi came in as a substitute for Diego Costa in the 89th minute. Conte said: “Diego felt a bit, not a muscular problem but is muscles were very tired.”

“Don’t forget that this game was the third in seven days and Diego played all the games with great quality, great passion, great intensity. It’s nothing of importance but now he has more days to rest compared to his teammates.”

Chelsea will play Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on December 26th, and Antonio Conte has 8 days ahead to find a perfect replacement for Costa. Michy Batshuayi is surely one of the options in front of Conte. But there is also a possibility of playing Pedro as a lone striker in his traditional 4-3-3 formation.
