Atletico Madrid star can solve Arteta’s Arsenal problems and improve in key area at Emirates.
Arsenal target Thomas Partey looks like a perfect fit for the puzzle Arteta is trying to build at Emirates. Partey has been a dependable midfielder for Diego Simeone in La Liga as well as the Champions League.
With his transfer rumors getting thicker, Arsenal’s shape in recent games also indicates Arteta is arranging his cards well. Alan Smith has said last month, “Mikel Arteta has “got a lot of work to do” at Arsenal, but he’s going to be a top manager”. He now looks to be walking well on that path.
Arsenal : A confluence of ups and downs
When football resumed post lockdown, Arsenal fans hardly had few reasons to celebrate. Pep showed no mercy to his disciple’s squad. Brighton’s Maupay addressed the gunners in a Jokeresque fashion. “They got what they deserved”, he said. The gaffer realized the need for immediate reaction. “Enough is enough!”, hollered fans.
That was 20th of June. Its been 2 weeks since then. The Gunners have played 5 matches in this interregnum. No Losses since. Arsenal is proving its presence with results. It is determined to establish they won’t stay in shadows of Wenger forever.
Wenger’s signings, except Aubameyang, too, are looking for the exit door. The panacea against such a caveat is signings. Fresh signings to adhere to Arteta’s team plans. The Spaniard has shown how a 3-4-3 formation can bring the best out of his defenders. He seems to stick to the same in the future That is exactly where Ghanaian midfielder Partey comes in.
Atletico’s underrated star : Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey played an instrumental role against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as Simeone knocked out the defending UCL Champions from the very tournament they won last year. His presence between the defensive third and middle of the park and resilience against English Champions attracted enough attention. In fact, Manchester United too made an inquiry about him. But Matic’s form fended them off.
Partey’s father, Jacob, told Ghanaian radio station Entsie en Tru FM recently: “Arsenal would be good for him, they have lots of followers in Ghana. He’d be happy if he went to Arsenal.”
Arsenal does look a great fit for the Ghanaian as 2 other midfielders are on the verge of an exit. Guendouzi’s conduct has been so offensive that Arsenal is almost ready to sell him off. The other is tricky. While Xhaka’s famous ‘shirt throwing’ risked his exit, he has looked better since. If Ceballos leaves for Spain, Xhaka will pair up with Partey. If Ceballos stays, the Swiss may have to part ways with Arsenal.
Partey ranks third in La Liga for ball possession in the middle third. An extra cannon to guard the final 3-man defense. The only hurdle Partey may pose Arsenal is lack of discipline. Of all the midfielders in La Liga, only ex-Manchester City midfielder Fernando has received more yellow cards at Sevilla than the 26-year-old’s count of 12.
In fact, his £45 million release clause is a relatively cheap price to pay for the Atletico Madrid star. As the Gunners sit 8th in the table 2 points below Wolves, they are busy looking for effective midfielders to build a squad for a probable Europa League place when the league ends.
