Unai Emery looks set to reunite with this former player.
It’s no secret that Unai Emery wants a creative midfielder, a centre back and a left winger. The Spaniard has done an impressive job but in order to finish top 4, he needs defensive enforcement. With the recent comments suggesting Arsenal can only sign players on loan, it has disappointed many Gunners fan. It seems Arsenal are close to it’s first signing and it’s not Suarez or Carrasco.
Arsenal target Ever Banega has told Unai Emery he wants a mammoth £7m-a-year three-year deal. The Gunners could be willing to pay up, according to reports in Spain. The Gunners are keen to secure reinforcements this month. But the north Londoners are cash strapped and any significant transfer business looks unlikely. Nevertheless, Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo says conversations with Banega and Arsenal have taken place. It’s suggested the Premier League heavyweights are willing to entertain his demands. Banega was initially reluctant to move midway through the season. But Arsenal’s flexibility in negotiations means he is now reconsidering.
When asked about his reported interest in the Argentina international yesterday, Emery said, “I know this player and he is a very good player. I cannot tell you more.” The Spanish outlet report that Arsenal have now met his demands, offering the exact £7m-per-year he wanted. They’re tempting him with a three-year contract, with the option for an additional fourth. This has taken Banega by surprise, as he previously had no intentions to leave Sevilla in January, holding a contract with the club until 2020. Now, with an offer on the table that meets all of his requirements, the 30-year-old is thinking about it. The Argentine international will personally announce his decision once he’s made it.
Banega is in fantastic form this season. He has eight goals and five assists in 28 appearances from midfield, and he’s been excelling in almost every area as a midfielder. Banega is a great replacement of Ramsey but given his age and wage figures, it seems Arsenal are risking for a move. The Sevilla man struggled at Inter and given his age, it’s less likely that he’ll adapt quickly to Premier League.
