The Gunners are planning to make a shocking move for a Barcelona midfielder in the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta is looking for reinforcements to move up Arsenal in the Premier League table.
The Londoners are now fifteenth in the table with just 17 points from fifteen games. This is one of the worst starts for Arsenal in the Premier League. Arsenal did have a good pre-season but couldn’t carry forward the same into League.
Arsenal will face Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday evening in a Premier League clash. They have been poor in front of the season this season, which is one of the reasons for their misery this term. Likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette are yet to fire for Arsenal.
However, the Gunners were victorious in their last game against Chelsea, which can be their turning point this season. It’ll be the time for Arteta and his men to make use of the won to carry forward the momentum.
They need a perfect playmaker in the middle, who can control the game as well. After missing out on Mesut Ozil, Arsenal now needs a perfect number 10 in the middle of the park.
Arsenal did try to secure the services of Lyon star Houssem Aouar in the summer. The highly-rated Frenchmen attracted big interest from London after an impressive season in the Champions League.
However, Arsenal couldn’t secure the midfielder this summer. They are again in the market for a new playmaker and are looking at youngster from Barcelona. According to The Athletic, Arsenal could swoop for 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig.
Long-term alternative for Houssem Aouar
Barcelona youngster has shown a great glimpse of football in the limited game time at Camp Nou. Fans are already crazy over Puig’s talent, but Koeman isn’t happy with the midfielder. The 21-year-old is happy to stay at the Catalan club despite a lack of game time.
Ronald Koeman isn’t having a good season either at Barcelona this term. Barcelona are set to face Manchester City in the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Barcelona are undergoing transition and will take time to settle down, but not by losing out on talents.
When asked why Puig was not playing, the Dutch coach said bluntly: ‘I like people who work every day to improve, and who take opportunities with both hands. Sometimes it’s not just about quality. There may be players who don’t do enough in training for the coach to give opportunities.’
Arsenal must not repeat same mistake
Koeman wants to get rid of the midfielder from Camp Nou. After accessing the situation, top-flight clubs are considering a move for Riqui Puig. Arsenal is one of such clubs in the race to secure the services of talented youngsters.
Real Betis are real contenders to sign Puig on loan by the January transfer window. Arsenal did sign Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona, which didn’t quite work out well for the Gunners. Arsenal must not repeat the same mistake, however, Puig showing real promise.
