Arsenal failed to keep promise as Folarin Balogun edges closer to Emirates exit

Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun is linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium at the end of this summer when his contract with the club meets an end. The 19-year old is poised to meet the end of his Arsenal career and is set to become a free agent at the end of this season.

As the winter transfer window is underway and Arsenal is actively involved in making new additions to the squad. But prior to that, the club is looking forward to offloading several outcasts in order to support the finance during the window. Folarin Balogun who was earlier believed to stay with Arsenal is open to a pre-contract agreement to join any foreign club in the near future.

Here Mikel Arteta and the club have turned their back on the promise they once made to fans. Where the Gunners have assured that they will take care of the direction of contracts in the future. But as the reports have emerged, Arsenal has failed to keep a promise as the 19-year-old has failed to sign a contract extension.

Mikel Arteta once wanted to retain Folarin Balogun services

Mikel Arteta has previously addressed the situation and was confident about the ability of his club to keep the player. Arteta opened up on Balogun’s future after his goal-scoring cameo against Dundalk last month. He stated that the club is having a discussion with the forward over his future. He is also aware that the club wants to retain him.

Arteta continued that he understands that the length of his contract is creating an issue. But the club is finding ways to resolve it very soon. Speaking for Balogun. Arteta stated that the player wants to stay at the club and thus he is assured about reaching an agreement and extending the contract.

Arsenal has allowed the striker to initiate pre-transfer talks

Arsenal also turned down a £5m offer from Brentford last January. When the offer was rejected it was initially believed that Arsenal would find a breakthrough in the contract. On contrary, neither the contract got improved nor Arsenal was able to meet the demand of the 19-year old. Taking a look over the situation it seems that Balogun’s time at Arsenal has reached its end.

There is no recent report about any contract extension or contract renewal. Moreover, it seems that the Spanish boss has changed his mind. Balogun has given the green signal to initiate the pretty transfer talks with foreign clubs. Swansea and Liverpool have emerged out as the clubs showing interest in signing the 19-year old.

The negotiations with Stuttgart have broken down with a striker who has shown goal involvement in every 60 minutes in the Europa League this season. The FA cup tie of Arsenal with Newcastle on Saturday would clear up the Arsenal stance on keeping the English professional further in the squad. As the Gunners would be rotating the squad.

As of now the only thing that is important is that Arsenal allowed his contract situation to take the direction where the striker might end up becoming a free agent. This suggests that Arsenal failed heavily in keeping the key transfer promise they once made to Gunners fans.

The departure of Aaron Ramsey to Juventus on free in 2019 disappointed Arsenal fans to a great extent. Raul Sanllehi the former Head of Football at Arsenal conducted an interview in the aftermath of Ramsey’s transfer on the club’s official YouTube channel. In an interview, he clearly stated that such a situation would never happen in the future.

Sanllehi said that the club would keep a watch on the contract of the player. If a player has two years left in his contract then the club would either extend the contract or sell those players. But they wouldn’t let players leave for free unless a player is reaching the end of his career.

This also implies to consider the case of Alexandre Lacazatte who will only have a year left in his contract to expire at the end of the season. Coming to the Balogun transfer, arsenal has broken the promise they made to fans. Whereas the only thing Gunners can think of is that Folarin Balogun doesn’t make them regret the decision in the future.
