Bayern Munich confirmed the signing Lucas Hernandez earlier this week and the Arsenal fans seemed to celebrate it as much as the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich have caused Arsenal a lot of agony in the recent past. But finally, the Gunnars hope that the Bundesliga holders might have done them a huge favour. Lucas Hernandez was confirmed as the latest addition to the German club a few days ago. As a result, the English side hopes to lure David Alaba to the Emirates. Arsenal are expected to sign a left-back with Nacho Monreal recently hitting 33 and Alaba is certainly the pick of the bunch.

“An Arsenal fan as a kid”

To a fuel to the fire, a part of Alaba’s recent interview was clipped which made rounds on the internet. The Austrian refused to rule out a move to the Premier League in the near future. He also revealed that he was a Gooner as a kid and still supports the North-Londoners. “I’m happy in Munich, but of course, I can imagine seeing something else. Spain, England. I was [an Arsenal fan as a child]. When you’ve been Arsenal fan as a kid, you will be one your whole life,” he said.

Arsenal
David Alaba is one of the best, if not the best, left backs in the world and would certainly improve Arsenal’s eleven if he made the move to London.

As expected, Arsenal fans too to Twitter to express hope and even joy once Bayern confirmed the signing of Hernandez.

David Alaba- Player analysis

David Alaba was not a left-back initially. The player, who initially started off as a playmaker, later played in the central midfield and also as a centre back. But it was Louis van Gaal’s tactical genius which put him at left back and created this beast. Alaba is widely regarded as one of the most complete left-backs in the world. His ability to combine attacking flair and astute defending is rivalled by few.

Alaba is a force to reckon with in attack. He usually tends to occupy the left wing or the half-spaces while combining with midfielders and attackers. Out of possession, he harries opponents to win the ball higher up the pitch for his team. Unsurprising characteristics for a former Pep Guardiola man. And he is also capable of scoring from the dead ball opportunities, courtesy the belter of a left foot.

Alaba to Arsenal?

Despite the signing of Lucas Hernandez, Bayern would likely keep hold of the Austrian. While Hernandez can operate as the left-back, he exploits in central defence is what the Bavarians are keen on. Niko Kovac is a fan of the three-at-the-back formation and Hernandez would slot in the left side along with the likes of Hummels, Sule, Martinez and Boateng. And with a lack of cover for the ageing Ribery and the outgoing Robben, Kovac is likely to push Alaba and Kimmich higher up the pitch. Bot full-backs have been a key part the Bavarian’s attack this season and the numbers will only go up this season. Why would Alaba move to Arsenal and be mediocre when he can win titles and possibly challenge for the Champions League for the rejuvenated Germans.
