Arsenal flop, Henrikh Mkhitaryan wants to leave permanently this summer with Roma interested
Arsenal playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan is reported desperate to leave the Gunners this summer and wants to make his Roma move permanent. The Armenian international is currently on loan at Roma, having joined the club on the final day of last summer transfer window. Mkhitaryan was so desperate to leave Arsenal, he didn’t even discuss a potential salary with Roma. He was shipped out by then Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
Mkhitaryan is keen to stay in the Italian capital, with Arsenal willing to sell the player. According to sources, Arsenal have put a price tag of £20 million on Mkhitaryan. That is well above what Roma wants to pay. That means Mkhitaryan will likely return to North-London unless Arsenal lower their asking price.

Thigh strains have hindered the first half of Mkhitaryan’s spell with Roma. The 31-year old has only featured in 12 games for Roma this season, scoring 4 goals. The deal currently costs the Italian giants £2.5m. But Mkhitaryan’s age and contract status have made Roma reticent to consider a permanent deal. Meanwhile, his Arsenal contract runs out in the summer of 2021.
Mkhitaryan’s Premier League stint was very disappointing
Mkhitaryan joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016 under Jose Mourinho, becoming the first Armenian player to play in the Premier League. He initially enjoyed his time under the Portuguese. But he fell out of favour and Mourinho decided to sanction the player. With United’s interest in, then Arsenal player, Alexis Sanchez growing, Mourinho decided to swap the Armenian for the Chilean.
The former Dortmund’s man move to the Emirates was even more underwhelming. He struggled to get into Emery’s plan. Before the start of the 2019-20 season, with the arrival of Dani Ceballos, Emery decided to loan-out the player to Italy. Just like Sanchez, Mkhitaryan finds himself in the Serie A, having failed to impress in the Premier League.

The former Dortmund star’s time in North-London was not a period in his career to look back on. He has made it clear he wants a permanent move over to Rome, despite enduring an injury-ravaged season.
He previously claimed:
“Arsenal made me promises at the beginning of the season, but after just two weeks, those promises weren’t kept.”
“So when my agent called me to propose the idea of joining Roma, I didn’t think twice. I wasn’t fitting so well in English football so I thought a change would be good.”
“I no longer felt happy and from day one there have been no regrets about joining Roma, where I have really felt the appreciation of the supporters and the club.”
