Arteta may try to raise funds for Aouar or Partey, but there’s another alternative.
Arsenal may have found an answer to their defensive troubles, but their transfer plans are far from over. Though they have managed to recall Dani Ceballos for another loan spell, Arteta wants further depth and quality in the midfield.
The Gunners kicked off the season with a 3-0 win away at Fulham. But Arsenal manager has insisted that the squad is not yet “ideal”. The club is looking at different options and if a person fits into Arteta’s plans, the club may very well go for him.
Talking of Arsenal’s transfer targets, one player who has been a consistent entrant in their list has been Thomas Partey. The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been a significant member of Simeone’s squad, but his asking price has still not changed.
As a result, Arsenal are looking for other options with a lower asking price. The club is already busy clearing house by selling a few of their players and transfer listing the rest. In fact, Arsenal seems to have found a proper replacement for Partey.
Arsenal busy managing exits to raise funds
Arsenal may have won both silverwares recently with Emiliano Martinez between the sticks, but he was the first to leave Emirates. Aston Villa finalized a deal for the Argentine goalkeeper, worth up to £20 million including add-ons.
However, Arteta still has three more players to sell – Lucas Torreira, Sokratis and Matteo Guendouzi. While the first two have attracted interest from Serie A, the latter has found life really difficult at Emirates.
However, the money from Emiliano’s transfer will not necessarily be available entirely for a midfielder’s signing. Arteta will need a reliable backup for Bernd Leno. Brentford’s David Raya or Dijon’s Runar Alex Runarsson are potential replacements for the Argentine who may cost less than half the amount received.
Arteta has found Partey’s replacement
Arsenal has found a versatile midfielder in Dani Ceballos. But Arteta needs more quality with little trust in Mesut Ozil. As a result, they have had two major targets in that area – Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.
The Frenchman has an asking price of £55.5 million (as per ESPN), while Simeone is stubborn about Partey’s release clause of £46.5 million. As a result, Arteta is looking for other options as he needs to raise funds first to sanction either of such high-profile deals.
The alternative Arsenal are looking at is Ligue 1 side Dijon’s youngster Mounir Chouiar. Though he has not been as experienced as Partey, he is just 21 with more goals than both Aouar and Partey in their respective leagues.(source: WhoScored)
Additionally, he is way cheaper than them, with a market value of £6.48 million (as per Transfermarkt). As a result, Arsenal are not the only club prowling around. Bielsa’s Leeds United have made a tremendous impact in their very first game.
Leeds have announced their arrival in the transfer market by signing Rodrigo from Valencia. They are set to add Feyenoord winger Crysencio Summerville too in their squad. Needless to say, a battle for Chouiar between Arsenal and Leeds will be interesting. Arsenal will provide him assured regular Premier League football, while Leeds has heritage and the entourage of Marcelo Bielsa as the perfect ruse.
