Mikel Arteta is trying to bolster the Arsenal squad. Partey is linked to Gunnars but also look at back-up options.
Arsenal has a lot of work to do with their squad. There are many players who need to improve their game and show that they deserve the spot in the team.
Since Arteta’s arrival, the club has seen an improvement in their performance. Mustafi, Xhaka has found a rejuvenated form. While Martinelli, Saka, and Maitland Niles are enjoying a newfound role with the club.
But there are many positions which still need strengthening. Penning a new deal with Aubameyang is also a top priority for the club. Dani Ceballos and Pablo Mari’s loan deals are also expiring. The decision for their spell with the club is also to be taken.
Arsenal’s primary transfer target for this season is Atletico Madrid Thomas Partey. Partey has been a part of the Atletico defensive foundation. Arteta will want to have some of that in his team.
Arsenal fans went to Partey’s home in Ghana and gave them an Arsenal kit as a gesture of celebration for the player’s potential move. There has also been discussion about his transfer clause of £48.5 million. But there are no guarantees yet.
Although if they fail, the club has identified a replacement. Real Sociedad player Marc Roca’s name has shown up on the Gunners Radar. Arteta thinks highly of the player and is keeping tabs on the player.
Roca has been a part of Spain Under 21 senior team too. He scored in the Under 21 UEFA European Championship final, where Spain won 4-1 over France
Gunners interested in Roca but Bayern will provide competition
Marc Roca has been one of the key performers for Espanyol in a rather downhill season for the club. He has been of the more consistent players in the team with 33 appearances for the club. He also has 2 goals and 3 assists.
According to Team Talk, Arteta is very keen on bringing Roca to the Emirates. His gameplay resembles that of Partey’s and both play the same position, which is a defensive midfielder.
Also, the release clause in Roca’s contract is £35 million. The figure is a lot less than Atletico’s demands for Partey. And the player is also younger and has the potential to develop.
However, Arsenal is not the only interested party. Bayern Munich are looking to provide competition to Arsenal. The Bavarians were interested in the player last season too.
According to Sport, Bayern made a move for Roca in the previous season. But apparently Espanyol’s evaluation for the player was more than what Bayern was willing to pay.
However, they have maintained their interest in the 23-year-old. Bayern could try to sign his for a lesser fee this season. As of now Espanyol sits at 20th spot in the La Liga and face relegation.
Given the present situation and financial problems faced by the club, both Arsenal and Bayern could try and negotiate a lesser amount for Roca’s services.
Roca also had a change of agents recently. He left JM10 Sport to join Promoesport. Promoesport also manages PL’s Adama Traore and Eric Baily. This could be a hint for Arsenal to go ahead and try to land Roca. Also, Bayern hasn’t really made any inquiries for him this season. But they could still do so.
