Arsenal legend’s advice for Manchester United star

Manchester United are expected to have a busy summer transfer window and Arsenal legend, Robert Pires, might have some timely advice for one of their stars.

Paul Pogba is one of Manchester United‘s key players. While he hasn’t lived up to his billing yet, there have been glimpses of the superstar qualities the 26-year-old possess. Pogba struggled under Mourinho but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival seemed to have supercharged his numbers. Next season the former Juventus man will have to attend to “unfinished business” in the Premier League according to Arsenal legend, Robert Pires.

“Snub Real Madrid”

“My view about Paul Pogba is that he’s a great player, but I also know that last season especially was very difficult for him,” Pires told The Mirror.“A lot of people just talk about the transfer because Manchester United spent a lot of money. So maybe that was difficult for him to handle, particularly at the beginning. But for me, the most important thing is for him to continue at United.”

“It is one of the best and biggest clubs in the world – and he has unfinished business. The reason United spent such a huge amount of money on him is that they believed a lot in Paul because he can be a real leader for their team. When the club spends a lot of money like this for you, it’s because they have faith in you.”

“That’s why it’s very important to have this point in your head. I know Paul is very intelligent about this. They have invested a lot in him, so I believe it’s very important that he stays at United and delivers what
they know he can produce.”

No Champions League, a problem for United

However, Pires also admitted that the lack of Champions League involvement might be a problem. With Zidane’s Real Madrid playing in Europe’s elite competition, Pogba will have a decision to make, admits the Frenchman.

Manchester United

“I know Madrid and Zidane want Paul and that may be hard for him to resist. United will play in the Europa League next season and every player wants to play in the Champions League. Maybe Paul wants to win this competition with Madrid. But I think he has football to play in the Premier League,” he concluded.

Author’s Take

It is understandable that Paul Pogba is looking for a move to Real Madrid. The Frenchman has single-handedly run the Manchester United midfield and has been constantly criticised for his social media activities. While there is little doubt regarding his talent, it hasn’t been displayed to its fullest at Old Trafford. United fans will be hoping that Pogba would take up the advice of his fellow countryman and resist the urge to join Los Blancos.
