Arsenal has had some difficulties in their midfield for a major part of the season. Mikel Arteta is hoping to add more creativity to the centre of the park in this window. The Spaniard has had his eye set on a list of possible recruits. But Norwich City playmaker Emiliano Buendia is at the top of Arteta’s favourites list.
Arsenal was on the brink of relegation until a few weeks back. With the club sitting 15th in the PL table risking to fall in the relegation zone with a few point drops. However, Mikel Arteta was able to get to the safer side after securing three wins in their last three games.
Arsenal’s bounceback to good form is solely thanks to the addition of creativity in midfield. The introduction of Emile Smith Rowe into the Gunners lineup gave them a boost. Hence, Mikel Arteta is hoping to sign a creative playmaker in the upcoming window as well. The manager is confident that signing an attacking midfielder will help the club secure better results.
Emiliano Buendia is also a capable midfielder who can make key moves to convert into a goal. Signing the playmaker will reinforce Arsenal’s midfield. However, Norwich City may not be willing to let go of their ace. Hence, Arsenal hopes to persuade them by involving a player swap into the negotiation.
Norwich is reluctant to release Buendia
Emiliano Buendia is a key player in the Norwich City lineup. Daniel Farke, Norwich City’s manager, understands that Buendia is fully committed to the club. Hence, he feels that the midfield ace will stick around at the club. Also, Emiliano has a contract running until June 2024 with the Championship side.
“He is our player and will continue to be our player. He is on a long-term contract so we keep him. Everyone knows his qualities-I don’t expect interest just because he scored a wondergoal today. People know what he can do.” -Daniel Farke, Norwich City manager.
In addition to this, Emiliano also has a price tag of $54.3m on him according to The Independent. This is a very big sum for Arsenal to spend on considering their financial issues. Hence the North Londoners are thinking of proposing a player in return for Buendia. As per reports, Arsenal are willing to offer either Joe Willock or Reiss Nelson. But should this be enough for Norwich City is still unknown.
The 24-year-old Argentine has been a solid talent for the Canaries. Buendia has made 14 goal contributions for his side, scoring 7 and assisting for 7 more. Norwich, who sit at the top of the Championship table, will not be keen to let go of their ace at halfway. But Arsenal will try to persuade the Canaries to release their midfielder.
Arsenal are keen to win big
Though Arsenal’s title dreams must wait until next season. The Gunners can still eye a top-four finish midway into the season. Hence, Mikel Arteta is looking forward to trying some new tactics to secure better results. We did see the Spaniard put an end to their seven-game winless streak. Thanks to Arteta introducing young Smith Rowe to fill the lack of creative play.
Emiliano Buendia is among many other creative options on Arteta’s list. Isco, Philippe Coutinho, Houssem Aouar, and Carlos Soler are all on Arteta’s wishlist. But Buendia is a versatile player who can play in multiple positions. Though he plays on the right-wing for the Canaries, the Argentine plays equally well on the left-wing and as an attacking midfielder.
Having such a utility player on his side will be key to Mikel Arteta. The Argentine’s creativity will also help Arsenal find the net more often. However, they must negotiate their way through Norwich City first. The Canaries have a good chance of returning to the English top-flight. Buendia is a key piece for the Canaries in making a comeback. So Arsenal must make a big offer if they are to lure the Argentine to Emirates stadium.
After three consecutive wins, Arsenal will face Newcastle next on Saturday. Mikel Arteta and co will be keen to keep their form up and keep their winning streak going. Two more wins may help the North London side to reach 6th or 7th in the league. If they are able to keep up with the form, they can steadily shorten the gap to reach the top four.
