Arsenal News: The Gunners have had a strong start and are currently in 4th place in the Premier League table. But Mikel Arteta should be looking to bring in reinforcements to maintain their position and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Currently, we see three positions that Arsenal should fill in January. And as per reports, the club management along with technical director Edu is already in talks with potential players.
One of the biggest causes of concern for Arsenal would be their striker position. The Gunners have had a lot of big names that have played in this position. But they could be without a well-versed striker going into the 2022/23 season.
Strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Edward Nketiah are yet to sign an extension with the club. Their contracts expire in January. Owing to this, it is expected that they would be leaving the club.
Former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been banished from the squad for disciplinary reasons. He has not played for over a month and has not even been allowed to train with the squad. To add to this, his form has also dipped drastically this season.
Owing to this, signing a new striker looks imminent. The North London club has been linked with Dusan Vlahovic and Alvaro Morata in the last few weeks. But nothing has been finalized as of yet.
Another position that the Gunners need to make a priority is the Central midfield position. Owing to the Africa Cup of Nations, the dire need for recruitment has come to the forefront.
Arsenal are left with Granit Xhaka and Albert Lokonga as their central midfielders. Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are on international duty, playing for their respective nations. To add to this, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is expected to leave the club in the coming days.
The Gunners are said to have understood the need for an addition. Hence they have shortlisted Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes as a target in January. It has to be seen if a deal with the Brazilian gets completed in the coming days.
Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has made the right-back position his own this season. Tomiyasu has been a revelation and is loved by Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta himself.
His injury against Leeds was met by a cause of concern, but the Japanese made his return against Manchester City on New Year’s Day. Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers are other options, but their future looks bleak.
Owing to this, a right-back signing would add much-needed depth to the squad. There are no rumors about filling this position as of now. But we expect things to pick up as the 2022 summer transfer window gets near.
