Arsenal News: Arsene Wenger Backs Gunners For Premier League Title Challenge

Arsenal news: Former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has backed the north London side to launch a Premier League title challenge this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have had a great start to the season, winning their first five matches in the English top-flight this season.

Arsenal’s perfect start to the season, though, came to a close when they faced Manchester United at Old Trafford in their sixth match of the season. Man Utd inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Arsenal in that game.

Despite defeat to Man Utd, Arsenal still sit top of the Premier League points table. They have 15 points from six matches – a point more than second-placed Manchester City.

Wenger has now backed Arsenal to launch a Premier League title challenge this season.

Wenger insisted that Arsenal are moving in the right direct. He also believes there is no weak position in the team. He said Arsenal have young and promising players and also lauded their transfer business in the summer.

Wenger noted that there is no ‘completing dominating’ team in the Premier League this season and is hopeful Arsenal can challenge for the league title.

I would say they are moving in the right direction,” Wenger told The Sun. “I honestly think there is no weak position in the team… they are young, promising players and they have bought well this year.

He added: “There is no completely dominating team this season and Arsenal has a chance with the potential that is there.

“We used to be in the top four and why not again? You cannot even rule out the fact that they can fight for the title and hopefully they can do it.”

Arsenal also began their Europa League 22/23 campaign on a winning note. They faced FC Zurich in the group stage and secured a 2-1 win over the Swiss side. Marquinhos and Eddie Nketiah scored for Arsenal in that match.

Arsenal will be hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they face Brentford next. The Bees sit eighth in the Premier League point table, with nine points from six matches.

Brentford host Arsenal at the Gtech Community Stadium on September 18th. The match kicks-off at 4:30pm Indian Standard Time. Arsenal will be looking to earn all three points and remain in control of the first position.
