Arsenal News: Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has issued a challenge to Brentford striker Ivan Toney to post another taunting message before their next match on Sunday.
Earlier a spikey post from Ivan Toney already served as an inspiration for the Arsenal team when they defeated the Bees 2-1 at the Emirates in February.
After getting the promotion last season, Brentford handed a shocking 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the opening matchday.
In the aftermath of the game, the Brentford striker took to Twitter and posted a taunting message saying, ‘Nice kick about with the boys.’
It was later revealed in the Amazon Prime documentary that Toney’s message was still striking Arteta when the two sides faced in last February.
The Arsenal gaffer pointed to that particular Ivan Toney tweet and said, “Before I go, because it’s still in my stomach and I have managed to keep it for four months, five months, six months.”
He further said “So today they play in our house, guys there is only one team on that f***ing pitch – and it’s us! Only one team, it’s like they don’t play football. We take that f***ing ball, we take the game, we go for it, and let’s f***ing win this game!”
Although it wasn’t exactly like what Arteta asked, his players still managed to win the game in Emirates.
A Northampton Town youth product, Toney became the youngest player to represent them in 2012. The forward played three seasons for Northampton and scored twelve goals in sixty appearances.
He then joined Newcastle United. However, Toney failed to impress in the Magpies shirt and had multiple loan spells with Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Wigan Athletic.
Toney signed for Peterborough United in 2018. In his second season with the club, Toney finally started to blossom. The forward became the League One top scorer in the 2019-20 season which helped to get a contract from Championship side Brentford.
In his first season with the Bees, he scored a staggering number of 31 goals as Brentford sealed promotion to the Premier league.
Toney continued his brilliant form in the English Premier League and scored 12 goals in his first full season in England’s top tire league as Brentford impressed everyone.
Things didn’t stop here and Toney has got a brilliant start in the ongoing season too. He has already netted 5 goals in 6 appearances and is one of the best forwards in the premier league right now. Subsequently, the Brentford forward got rewarded by a debut national team call-up and can feature in the Three Lions shirt soon.
While commenting on Toney’s inspirational rise Arteta praised the forward’s story and found similarities with Leicester City’s talisman Jaime Vardy.
