Arsenal News: Mikel Arteta signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal. Just after signing a new deal, technical director Edu feels the team is in for a “huge summer.”
On Friday, it was reported that Arteta has agreed to a contract extension until the end of the 2024/25 season. After replacing Unai Emery midway through the 19/20 season, the Spaniard is nearing the end of his second full season in charge.
The Spaniard rapidly established himself as a fan favourite and led Arsenal to the FA Cup final just months after his arrival. The Gunners beat Manchester City in the semi-finals and Chelsea in the final.
His second season was more difficult, and Arsenal missed out on European qualification for the first time in this century. The club, on the other hand, showed their support for the former Manchester City assistant during the recent summer transfer window.
Arsenal News: Biggest spenders of last season
Gunners spent the most money in the Premier League ahead of the new season. They spent over £150 million on six players. After a rocky start, Arsenal is on the verge of returning to the Champions League.
With only four games remaining, they only need to match or improve Tottenham’s results to earn a top-four finish for the first time since the departure of Arsene Wenger.
The former Manchester City assistant has been rewarded with a new contract. Edu believes that it has arrived at the perfect time to provide a huge lift heading into the final stretch. “I believe the time is ideal,” he stated. “I am confident that the message will inspire everyone. To the supporters, the club, the players, and Mikel.”
