Arsenal News: Former Arsenal first-team regular reveals the “madness” he experienced inside the Gunners dressing room. Lucas Torreira has opened up about the time the Uruguayan spent in London after his move from Sampdoria to Arsenal.
Lucas Torreira has revealed that he was left star-struck by some of the big names in Arsenal’s dressing room as he only ever dreamed of sharing the same locker room with players of that quality and status.
“At Arsenal, the first year, I didn’t speak English, but some in the team spoke Italian, like Sokratis, Stephan Lichtsteiner, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.”
“In the dressing room, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette sat next to me. Madness. You can imagine, me and them next to me. Here we are, in London.” he said to Cronache di Spogliatoio.

“I did not go out so much. I had a person who often picked up my groceries. One day I went to the grocery store. Surprisingly when I went through the shelves I saw a label with the name of my town ‘Made in Fray Bentos’, Just like me. A village of 25,000 people in London. It was exciting. It was a can, yes, but it was exciting.”
Lucas Torreira was brought to north London by former Arsenal manager Unai Emery in 2018. In a deal worth that was reported £26million from Serie A side Sampdoria.
The Uruguayan went on to play over 40 matches for the Gunners as he was frequently deployed in the midfield and was part of the team that won the FA Cup.
Although he seemed the flourish under Unai Emery. The arrival of Mikel Arteta halted his progress and he was soon of on loan to Atletico Madrid. Though part of a title-winning Atletico team, he was not a regular starter and often found himself on the fringes.

The 26-year-old also had warm words and praises for head coach Vincenzo Italiano saying “Italiano often shouts and he is really good. He’s crazy on the pitch.”
“We have a good relationship and for that reason, we often joke. Sometimes he takes off his jacket and becomes a teammate.”
