Arsenal News: Brentford forward Ivan Toney has responded to Arsenal defender Gabriel’s tweet, terming it as “cringey”.

After getting the promotion last season, Brentford handed a shocking 2-0 defeat to the Gunners on the opening matchday of the Premier League.

Then in the aftermath of the game, the Brentford striker took to Twitter and posted a taunting message saying, ‘Nice kick about with the boys.’

This incident made Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta furious and before the reverse leg fixture, Arteta spoke about it to his players. The taunting message then served as an inspiration and Arsenal defeated Brentford in the Emirates.

Toney’s recent rise

Rising from the academy of Northampton Town, Toney became the youngest player to represent them in 2012. The forward then played three seasons for Northampton and scored twelve goals in sixty appearances.

Toney then signed for Newcastle United. However, the English striker failed to impress in the Magpies shirt and was sent to multiple loan spells at Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United, and Wigan Athletic.

Toney finally signed for Peterborough United in 2018. In the second season with Peterborough, Toney finally got his breakthrough. The forward became the League One top scorer in the 2019-20 season which earned him a contract from Championship side Brentford.

In his first season with Brentford, Toney scored a mesmerizing number of 31 goals as Brentford finally got promoted to the English Premier League.

Toney continued his brilliant form in the Premier League and netted 12 goals in his first full season at EPL.

Things didn’t end here and Toney started brilliantly in the current season. The striker netted 5 goals in 7 appearances and is one of the best forwards in the premier league currently. As a result, Ivan Toney was rewarded by Gareth Southgate with a debut Three Lions call-up and now can feature in the national team soon.
