Arsenal News: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang showed off his class as Barcelona beat Valencia 4-1. The Gabonese international scored a hat-trick in the sensational win for the Blaugrana. Aubameyang last featured for the Gunners in their Premier League match against Everton in December.

Following this, the former Arsenal captain was not allowed to represent the Gunners in any game. As per reports, the Gabonese striker had committed a disciplinary breach following the game against Everton. Aubameyang reportedly went to visit his mother in France but returned to training late. 

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had already been guilty of being late multiple times. Owing to this, Mikel Arteta stripped him of the captaincy and froze him out of his squad. The striker reportedly could not train with the team. 

Following this, the club eventually released Aubameyang from his contract in January. The Gunners reportedly paid the striker £8 million to settle his dues.

Aubameyang showed Arsenal exactly what they were missing out on, in the game against Valencia. He opened the scoring against Valencia with a superb strike in the first half. This was also his first goal in Barcelona colors.

The former Arsenal captain then added a second goal after scoring a tap-in to add to Barcelona’s advantage. Aubameyang then completed his hat-trick courtesy of his feint touch on Pedri’s strike to complete the 4-1 rout for Barcelona.

Aubameyang last scored a hat-trick against West Brom in the Carabao Cup back in 2021. This was also Barcelona’s first hat-trick since Lionel Messi scored against Eibar in February 2020. 

Can Mikel Arteta find a goalscorer?

Given Arsenal’s woes in front of goal in 2022, Arteta would certainly be hoping that one of his youngsters could replicate the performance. Hence, it remains to be seen if Arsenal are able to find a goalscorer similar to or better than Aubameyang in the summer.
