Arsenal is looking for a replacement for the departing Alexis Sanchez and it looks like a Bundesliga superstar could be their answer, with a surprise Gunner going the other way.
The 28-year-old striker has long been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, after a promise to his Real Madrid supporting grand-father. However, while Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been in fine form for Dortmund, it looks like Los Blancos may end up losing out on the striker with Arsenal coming close to a move, which includes French star Olivier Giroud going the other way.
With Arsenal’s prolific forward Alexis Sanchez deciding where he wants to go, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in a three-way battle for the Chilean, the Gunners have shortlisted Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as his potential replacement. But with Manchester United leading the race for Sanchez, it looks like former Borussia Dortmund man Henrikh Mkhitaryan could move in the opposite direction.
However, despite that Arsenal and Arsene Wenger still want to strengthen their squad further and have thus according to reports offered a potential fee of 40 million plus French striker Olivier Giroud, whom Dortmund are keen on signing. The Arsenal target man has fallen out of favor at the club and also currently sits injured but despite that, the Bundesliga side is still interested.
Sven Mislintat, Arsenal’s new head of recruitment and scouting who originally signed Aubameyang back in 2013, is behind the deal and has already given the Gabon international his seal of approval. The Gunners are suffering in the Premier League and sit at sixth, eight points off a Champions League spot for next season.
Not only that, they’ve already lost a place in the FA cup after getting humiliated by Nottingham Forest and currently face Chelsea in the second leg of the EFL Cup after a 0-0 draw. However, they are in the round of 32 in the Europa League and despite the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and even AC Milan, face Ostersund on the 15th of February.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have his faults but the Gabon international is a proven goal-scorer for Borussia Dortmund. The 28-year-old has 21 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions, including 13 goals in 15 appearances in the Bundesliga. And with Borussia Dortmund underperforming both in the league and the Champions League, a move is more than possible with reports that the Gabon international has handed in a transfer request.
