Arsenal may face various senior team players exit this season. Ozil is amongst them to be axed in summer
Arteta came over from City and took over as Arsenal’s manager in the 2019-20 season following the departure of Unai Emery. One thing is certain that there is a lot of work to be done with Arsenal.
Arteta has to venture avenues to strengthen up his squad and push his players to get the best performances out of them. Arsenal could face a mass exodus of players by the end of this season. As they sit on 10th in Premier League right now.
Although a top 4 push is still on, there is also the FA cup and chances for UEFA Europa League qualification. In short Arsenal, performances will decide the future of many of their first-team players.
While there are players who want to leave there are also some who Arsenal does not want to keep. David Luiz, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan are some of the players who do not look to be a part of Arteta’s plans for Arsenal.
Ozil is one of the highest earners in the club. He receives £350,000 a week. Furthermore, the player has refused to take a pay cut due to the Covid19 situation. The German international has had fitness issues and was able to get a good run this season. But he has only 1 goal and 3 assists in 23 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.
It looks like Ozil is now dead weight for Arsenal. The player is not able to show the quality in his performances he once used to. Although his contract with Arsenal is up to June 2021. If Arsenal is firm on their stand to sell Ozil they would like to do it before he becomes a free agent.
Gunners favorites to land Orkun Kokcu as Ozil’s replacement
Kokcu is one of the emerging players in Feyenoord’s ranks. He is another example of another young Dutch player putting in quality performances. Kokcu has 3 goals and 6 assists for Feyenoord in 35 appearances.
Although the numbers aren’t really great he’s just 19 as of now. He is a regular for Feyenoord and has shown great attacking abilities in his time with the club.
The player has attracted interest from a no of clubs. Arsenal face competition from Chelsea, Valencia, and Roma in landing Kokcu. Although according to a report from The Sun, the Gunners are close to agreeing to a deal for him.
Initially, Feyenoord was keen on retaining the player. But due to the Covid19 pandemic, the financial situations are tough for the club. In that light, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were to change their stance.
Arteta is preparing a bid of around €25 million for the attacking midfielder. They have also initiated talks with his representatives regarding a potential move to North London.
Former United legend Jaap Stamp believes the player has the potential to thrive in the Premier League. He told Goal, “He would need to adjust because the step to Arsenal and the Premier League is totally different when you compare it to Holland.”The pace of the game, the quality, the intensity is a lot higher. But he has the ability.
It certainly looks like Kokcu has the ability but whether he will decide to move to the Premier League still remains uncertain.
